Production mode
Typically, all inventory is created for the production order material. However, in some processes it is possible to create multiple materials.
These are the primary modes when the process enables multiple materials to be created:
- Co-production
- This is a recipe production order that is executed on the line. The material for the recipe order is not a material that can be used to create inventory, because it represents the process only. Receiving orders are linked to the recipe order to book created inventory against. The inventory created is expected based on the receiving orders.
- By-production
- This is the material for the production order is the material that the process is trying to make. However it might be possible that another material is created instead.
- Grading
- This is the material for the production order. All inventory created from the process is the same material, but an additional grading property defines the quality of the material. It is preferable that each grade of material would have its own material number, but this is dependent on your ERP configuration.
For each of these modes, a selection of more detailed options exist in MES:
- {None}
- Inventory is not created as part of this process.
- Standard
- Only a single material can be created for this production order.
- Expected (planned) co-production
- Multiple materials can be created on this production order, using a recipe job to describe the process. Created material is booked against predefined receiving production orders.
- Expected (planned) co-production (position restrictions)
- Multiple materials can be created on this production order, using a recipe job to describe the process. Created material is booked against predefined receiving production orders. The positions defined on the machine must match the ones on the production orders that are assigned to the recipe order.
- Expected (planned) co-production (group restrictions)
- Multiple materials can be created on this production order, using a recipe job to describe the process. Created material is booked against predefined receiving production orders. The number of position groups allowed is limited to the 'Max Value', this is a limit of how many places there are in the machine that can create material, each place in the machine can contain/create multiple materials at the same time.
- Expected (planned) co-production (width restrictions)
- Multiple materials can be created on this production order, using a recipe job to describe the process. Created material is booked against predefined receiving production orders.
- Unexpected (unplanned) co-production
- Multiple materials can be created on this production order, using a recipe job to
describe the process. Created material is booked against production orders, but these
orders may not be predefined for the recipe order because the materials being created are
not expected.Note: These restrictions affect materials that can be created:
- The materials on open production orders with routing operations that can be performed on this machine, effectively creating a 'pseudo operation' in the routing.
- The material properties must match any recipe properties that exist.
