Add Materials to a Work Order Operation
You can connect new materials to a work order operation, add materials by specifying them manually, or select materials from the equipment structure.
Outcome
New materials are added to the operation and if WO picking list is used on the WO type parameter 210, a delivery is created in 'Delivery. Open Toolbox' (MWS410). Otherwise, a requisition is created in 'Req/Distr Order. Open' (MMS100).
The material is available, and you can complete the work.
Core entitlement is created in 'Core Entitlement. Open Toolbox' (MWS090) for exchangeable items that are related to a maintenance customer order and for internal work orders when activated on the work order type.
The information is stored in the MMOMAT table.
Before you start
- The starting conditions listed in Stopping, Delaying and Replanning Work Order Operations must be met.
- A stocked item must be defined in 'Item. Open' (MMS001) with a warehouse and other details.
- If used, the order type in 'Req/Distr Order Type. Open' (CRS200) must be correctly defined with the parameter 'Type of order number check' set to 6. This order type must be defined as the default order type for the work order type in 'Work Order Type. Open' (MOS120).
- If used, the WO type in 'Work Order Type. Open' (MOS120) must be configured for WO picking list. To do this, add a dispatch policy in parameter 210 and leave the RO type in parameter 120 blank. This indicates that orders using this order type issue material using the delivery in direct connection to the work order instead of by requisition order. The return of any unused material associated with the pick list continues to be managed through requisition orders of type 40, using parameter 130 in (MOS120). The picking list status field in 'Work Order. Open Line' (MOS101) indicates the progress of the delivery or picking list.
- The sequence used to search for the item number when adding the spare part must be defined in the 'Check sequence - item ID' field on the P panel. To use the customer's item number, that number must be defined in 'Customer. Connect Item' (OIS005). To use the alias number, that number must be defined in 'Item. Connect Alias Number' (MMS025). To use a check against interface item numbers, that number must be defined in 'Interface Item. Open' (MHS001) and number 5 to be added in your sequence. If you use alias numbers, you must also define the sequence in which to search for the alias number in the 'Search sequence' field on the P panel.
- If 'Hide miscellaneous cost material' on (MOS101/P) is enabled, miscellaneous costs are not included in the calculation of the estimated cost.
- To enable MRP usage on distributed items within facilities using 'On-hand method' set to '2-Accumulate changes according to transaction types: - Purchasing, order category 1 - Physical inventory differences - Manufacturing - Sales - Scrap.', configure the 'Order type' in either 'Work Order Type. Open' (MOS120) or 'WO Type. Connect Facility Parameters' (MOS122). To do this, activate parameter '602 Incl WO demand in MRP for item/facility on-hand method 2'. This configuration enables the system to include demand in the MRP calculation and generate a planned Distribution Order (DO) when these conditions are met:
- The item/facility record uses on-hand method 2
- The item is sourced from a DO using the MRP from a facility that uses on-hand method 1
Note: This setup only supports distribution creation. Other acquisition methods are not supported.
Follow these steps
Add material or spare parts manually
Follow these steps to add material or spare parts:
- Start 'Work Order. Open' (MOS100/B).
- Select an appropriate sorting order to identify the correct work order.
- Select the work order and related option 11='Materials and operations' to display 'Work Order. Open Line' (MOS101/B).
- Select a sorting order and ensure the panel sequence includes the material related screens E, F, or M.
- Specify a sequence number and an operation number to which the material is to be linked.
The sequence number must be specified, for example 001, 002, or 003.
- Specify the item number of the material. Select .
You can also specify a kit number or the alias number of the reference number or the customer's item number. The reference number as defined in (MMS001) is automatically retrieved during entry and used on the picking list and other internal documents.
- On the detail panel, specify the quantity to be reserved. Press to return to the B panel. To trigger an order-initiated DO or PO for this specific material line, use line type 1-3 on the F panel.
- Specify any other materials.
- Press F3='Exit' to finish.
If you add more than one material, the system displays a prompt to reschedule the work order in 'Work Order. Reschedule' (MOS010) when you press .
The work order receives status X2 until you finish editing the work order. This status prevents other users from editing the work order.
Add material or spare parts from the equipment structure
Follow these steps to add spare parts that are already linked to the equipment in 'Product Structure. Open' (PDS002):
- Start 'Work Order. Open' (MOS100/B).
- Select an appropriate sorting order to identify the correct work order.
- Select the work order and select related option 11='Materials and operations' to display 'Work Order. Open Line' (MOS101/B).
You can also access this panel from 'Work Schedule. Open Toolbox' (MOS195) using related option 11='Materials and operations'.
- Select sorting order 1 and press F16='Add spares' to display 'Work Order. Add Spare Parts' (MOS107).
- Specify the quantity reserve for each item and press to save.
- Press F3='Exit' to finish.
The system displays a prompt to reschedule the work order in 'Work Order. Reschedule' (MOS010) when you press .
The work order receives status X2 until you finish editing the work order. This status prevents other users from editing the order.
Add interface item from (MHS001)
Follow these steps to add an interface item to a work order:
- Start 'Work Order. Open' (MOS100/B).
- Select an appropriate sorting order to identify the correct work order.
- Select the work order and related option 11='Materials and operations' to display 'Work Order. Open Line' (MOS101/B).
You can also access this panel from 'Work Schedule. Open Toolbox' (MOS195), using related option 11='Materials and operations'.
- Go to settings (MOS101/P).
- Specify 5 in the 'Check sequence - item ID' field.
Press and go back to (MOS101/B).
- Specify the interface item in the material field and create.
- When creation is in progress, these scenarios can occur:
- If only one record of the interface item exists, (MOS101/V) is displayed directly.
- If two records of the interface item exist, a pop-up browse window is displayed. Select the item you want to use. When a item is selected, (MOS101/V) is displayed.
- The item is added to the work order, and you can continue the process.
Limitations
Interface items in (MHS001) that can be used in the process must be validated successfully (status 40) and contain an item type on (MHS001/E) that uses item category 11 (ECI) and where the item interface-controlled parameter is set to 2 (Controlled without update).
