Establishing Basic Data Planning

Outcome

You have established a coherent long to medium-term maintenance plan and you have identified shortcomings in an organizations ability to meet that plan at the earliest possible time.

Before you start

There should be a consistent company strategy on how work planning is carried out.

Follow these steps

1. Create Numbering Series 44

   Numbering series of type 44 for macro orders, action log and detailed messages are defined in 'Number Series. Open' (CRS165).

2. Define Settings for Macro Orders

   Settings for macro orders must be defined in 'Settings Macro Order' (RPS800). This is the main setting that checks whether or not macro orders are used.

3. Define Object Control Parameters

   Object control parameters are configured in 'Available Object Control Parameters. Open' (CMS016). The object control parameters check the objects and hierarchy that are used to create macro order policies. For example, you may want to be able to aggregate differently depending on the type of item.

4. Define Macro Order Policy

   Macro order policies are defined in 'Macro Order Policy. Open' (RPS350). Macro order policies define how the aggregation of work requests and work orders should take place. You can configure the solution so that no aggregation occurs by selecting the parameter 'Aggregate order number' on the E panel in (RPS350).

   In the next stage of configuration, you can define separately which macro order policy is used for work requests and work orders. This means that you may want to define two macro order policies at this time. For example, the request macro order policy could aggregate more than the work order policy.

5. Define Macro Order Policy Selection

   A macro order policy selection is defined in 'Macro Order Policy Selection Table. Open' (RPS360). A macro order policy selection allows you to link the macro order policies to the hierarchy defined in 'Available Object Control Parameters. Open' (CMS016).

   For example, if you have defined to use different macro order policies for different types of items (i.e. equipment, spare parts, consumables etc.) then this is where you would make that connection.

6. Define Settings for Item/Facility

   Materials to be considered during the planning process in the M3 Planning Workbench should be marked as critical in their item/facility record in 'Item. Connect Facility' (MMS003).

7. Define Settings for Work Centers

   Work centers to be considered during the planning process in the M3 Planning Workbench should be marked as critical in 'Work Center. Open' (PDS010).

8. Create Action Type Definitions

   Action types are used when data is transferred from M3 Planning Workbench to the M3 Business Engine. Actions types define how each change or decision made within M3 PWB should be interpreted.

   For example, if a job has been rescheduled in M3 PWB, then should that be automatically accepted back into M3 or should it require manual approval? There are a number of different decisions that can be configured.

   You define action types in 'Action Type Definition. Open' (CMS109).

9. Additional Settings

   For the Planning process to operate you also need services configured in 'Service. Open' (MOS300). These services are used to create the demand for scheduled services as well as customer demands. Ideally, you would also have maintenance customer orders configured in 'Work Order. Open' (MOS100) as well to provide the billing capabilities.
