Enter Alternate Structures for Items

This procedure is used to enter and maintain alternate product structures (i.e. manufacturing processes) for an item. As there could be several ways to manufacture an item, some of which may vary by season, the system enables you to define primary (default) structures that are valid by effective dates in 'Alternate Structures. Open' (PDS023).

The PDS023 program also allows you to define a structure that is not primary, which in other words is to be considered an alternate way of manufacturing the item. For example, for a given finish date, you may choose to execute an MO using an alternate product structure.

Before you start

This prerequisite must be met:

  • Connect an item to the facility using 'Item. Connect Facility' (MMS003). From the B panel of MMS003, you may select Related Options > Alternate Structures (or CTRL+14) to open 'Alternate Structures. Open' (PDS023) for the defined item and facility.

Outcome

An entry is created for an item's alternate product structure(s), including the effective dates of the structure and also whether the structure is primary.

Follow these steps

Enter alternate structure

  1. Launch 'Alternate Structures. Open' (PDS023).

  2. On the B1 panel, enter a product structure ID in the Process field and a starting date for this process (i.e. product structure) in the From date field.

  3. Select the Create option.

  4. On the E panel, enter the ending date range of the product structure in the To date field.

  5. Select the Primary flag if it is a primary product structure (assuming that a primary structure has not already been defined for the specified item in the facility).

  6. Click Next to save your changes. The new structure appears in the grid on the B1 panel.

MI transactions

The MI transactions that exist for entering/maintaining alternate structures include:

  • AddAltStructure (PDS023MI component) - creates a new alternate structure for an item.
  • UpdAltStructure (PDS023MI component) - updates an existing alternate structure for an item.
  • CpyAltStructure (PDS023MI component) - copies an existing alternate structure for an item.
  • DltAltStructure (PDS023MI component) - deletes existing alternate structure for an item.
  • GetAltStructure (PDS023MI component) - retrieves existing alternate structure details for an item.
  • LstAltStructure (PDS023MI component) - retrieves and lists existing item alternate structures from the MPDMFD table.
