Lead Time Analysis - Manufactured Product

Lead time analyses of manufactured products are processed in M3, either for single level or all levels in the product structure.

Single level lead time analyses are performed using the operation times in the product's routing. Analyses for all levels are performed against a file created specifically for that purpose. This file is based on the operation times in the product's routing at the time it was created.

Before you start

To use this supporting function, operations must be entered for the product in 'Product Structure. Open' (PDS001) and 'Product. Connect Materials/Operations' (PDS002).

For more information, refer to Creating a Product Structure.

You must have selected parameter 'Create sum BoM' in 'Item Type. Open' (CRS040).

Follow these steps

This supporting function includes display and printing of total lead times, that is lead times for all levels. Before total lead times can be displayed or printed, they must be created as described in the supporting function. In addition, lead times can be calculated and simulated using this function.

  1. Create Total Lead Time

Lead times for all levels (like summarized bills of material) are created in 'Summarized Bill of Material. Create' (PDS560).

After selecting the summarized product structures to be created, a file is automatically created against which inquiries and printouts can be made. The file contains summarized information regarding the selected products, their included materials, and their lead times, from the highest to the lowest levels.

Note: Summarized product structures should be recreated periodically as they are not automatically updated when a product structure is changed.
  2. Display Total Lead Time

Inquiries regarding total lead time can be made in 'Lead Time. Display Total' (PDS105). The material included for any number of underlying levels can be displayed. Whether purchased items, the critical line (structure branch with the longest total lead time), or other information are included can be regulated using sorting orders.

  3. Calculate Lead Time for One Level

Lead times for a single level can be calculated or updated in 'Lead Time. Calculate' (PDS200).

Lead times can also be calculated by marking a line and selecting option 21 = Prod calc, in this program.

  4. Simulate Lead Time for One Level

Lead times for a single level can be simulated in 'Lead Time. Simulate/Update' (PDS120).

Select product, quantity and validity date for the product structure to display lead time. This can be done both graphically and numerically. When displayed, number of units (machines or persons) and queue value can be changed for each operation in order to see how lead times are affected.

Note: The values specified are updated immediately for the operations being changed.
  5. Print Total Lead Time

Total lead times are printed in 'Lead Time. Print Total' (PDS570). Different IDs, item types or other information can be selected for printing using this program. The desired type of lead time analysis is selected using the report layout.
