Create Product Variant with Item Number
The purpose of this procedure is to create different product variants which are assigned unique item numbers and have product structures saved in a common family item (item with configuration code 2).
One reason for creating product variants with item numbers is when commonly reoccurring items are needed. Another reason is if one wishes to place all product variants in a common product structure and still be able to save price or balance information for each unique variant.
Before you start
Before you can begin to create a product variant with an item number, the following prerequisites must be met:
- Configuration options for product variants are specified in program 'Settings - Product Variants' (CRS775).
- An item having configuration code 2 is entered in program 'Item. Open' (MMS001) and has a product structure with the appropriate features connected.
Follow these steps
Follow the steps below to create a product variant with an item number.
-
Select program 'Product Variant. Open' (PDS060).
-
Specify which family item to begin with and any product variant ID.
-
Create the variant. If you do not enter an ID, it will be created automatically according to specifications in program CRS775.
-
Enter a name and description. Note that the item name is used as the name of the new item created. On the other hand, the description is only used for searches within this program.
-
Create the product variant.
-
Enter options in the product configuration. When you are finished, a copy of the family item is automatically created with the ID entered in step 2 above. However, the new item is created as a product variant (with configuration code 3) instead of a family item.
Output
A new product variant is created when using this procedure. It has a unique identity that is connected to the family item's product structure.
