Enter Obligatory Variant Combination

The purpose of this procedure is to enter the variant combinations which must be used together when a product is Configure Product.

Check of obligatory variant combinations is only performed when both of the features are used at the same time in a product structure.

Before you start

Before you can begin to enter obligatory variant combinations, the following prerequisites must be met:

  • Options are entered in program 'Option. Open' (PDS050).
  • Features with feature type 1 or 2 are entered in program 'Feature. Open' (PDS055).

Follow these steps

Follow the steps below to enter an obligatory variant combination.

  1. Start 'Feature/Option Comb. Open Obligatory' (PDS054).

  2. Enter the feature and option which must be combined with other combinations.

  3. Enter the feature and option which must be used with the feature/option combination entered in the previous step.

  4. Select Create/Select (option 1) to create the combination. If the reverse of this combination should be obligatory, this must also be entered (so the values entered in steps 2 and 3 should be switched).A check is made to ensure there is no conflicting information concerning the invalid variant combinations.

Output

With this procedure, obligatory variant combinations can be entered before using feature/option combinations at a later point.

Description

Assume that acceptable options are Blue, Yellow and Green for the feature Color when a product is configured.

However, these combinations should not be permitted if the option Leather is used with the feature Material; instead, only Blue should be valid options for the feature Color.

To avoid always combining the Material/Leather combination with the Color/Blue combination, the obligatory combinations are entered as shown below.

Feature Option Feature Option
Material Leather Color Blue
Color Blue Material Leather

If only the first combination had existed, it would only have been an obligatory combination when the feature Material was displayed before the feature Color.
