Create Shift Pattern and Shift Model

This document describes how you create shift patterns and shift models to be used for capacity planning.

Outcome

A shift pattern indicates the shift models used during a certain period, for example three shifts during the spring, one shift during the summer and two shifts during the autumn.

A shift model indicates the periodicity for the shift and the time when work should be done for every day in the period. If for example the period is seven days, the morning shift can be between 07.00-12.00, and the afternoon shift 13.00-16.00. Two days in the period have no shifts at all.

Shift planning means that capacity and load planning are generated to the minute. If shift planning is not used, planning is carried out by the day.

In 'Work Center. Open' (PDS010/E), the work center's shift pattern is indicated.

  • 'Shift. Open' (PDS030)' generates changes in the file Shift (MPDSHT).
  • 'Shift Model. Open' (PDS031) generates changes in the Shift Model (MPDSHM) and Shift Model Lines (MPDSML) files.
  • 'Shift Model. Open Lines' (PDS032) generates changes in the Shift Model Lines (MPDSML) file.
  • 'Shift Pattern. Open' (PDS033) generates changes in the Shift Pattern (MPDSHP) and Shift Pattern Lines (MPDSPL) files.
  • 'Shift Pattern. Open Lines' (PDS034) generates changes in the Shift Pattern Lines (MPDSPL) file.

Follow these steps

Create a shift model

  1. Start 'Shift. Open' (PDS030/B).

  2. Create a new shift model/mark and open one that has already been created.

  3. Enter/change the description and name on the E panel.

Define number of days for the shift model

  1. Start 'Shift Model. Open' (PDS031/B).

  2. Enter the identity for the shift model. Create a new model or open one that has already been created.

  3. Define the periodicity (the number of days) on the E panel.

    Example: An ordinary work week with 40 labor hours has five work days and two free days. The shift model will have a periodicity of 7 days. The two free days must be included.

Define time interval for every day in the shift model

  1. Continue to 'Shift Model. Open Lines' (PDS032/B) by selecting Lines (option 11) on the B panel in 'Shift Model. Open' (PDS031).

  2. Check and correct, if necessary, the facility and shift model.

  3. Enter the day, related to the selected shift model, and the start time. Click New.

    Already defined time intervals can be checked and changed.

  4. Enter a stop time and type of shift on the E panel. Click Next.

    You define different types of shifts in 'Shift. Open' (PDS030).

  5. The values should now be displayed on the B panel.

  6. Continue to enter values for the days in the shift model.

    If for example no work should be done on Saturday and Friday, there should be no shift these days.

Create a shift pattern

  1. Start 'Shift Pattern. Open' (PDS033/B).

  2. Create a new shift pattern/mark and open one that has already been created.

  3. Enter/Change description and name on the E panel.

Define when the shift pattern should be valid

  1. Continue to 'Shift Pattern. Open Lines' (PDS034/E) by selecting Lines (option 11) on the B panel in 'Shift Pattern. Open' (PDS033).

  2. Check and change if necessary the facility and shift pattern.

  3. Enter the start date when the shift pattern should be used for capacity planning.

  4. Enter the finish date for the shift pattern on the E panel. Click Next.

  5. The values should now be displayed on the B panel.
