Define Output Item for a Product Structure

This document explains how you define one or more output items for a product structure by:

  • entering product structures with a structure class type (PCLT) of '15- Packaged item product structure' or '11-Formula';
  • defining output item(s) for those product structures.

The 'Output Items. Open' (PDS029) program allows you to set up items as outputs that are manufactured from a process. This program works in conjunction with 'Product Structure. Open' (PDS001) which represents a product structure header. The output defined must be an inventoried item.

Outcome

You can define and maintain output items for product structures that are the structure class type of '15- Packaged item product structure' or '11-Formula'.

Before you start

The output items can be defined when these prerequisites are met:

  • The 'Process manufacturing' check box on 'Facility. Open' (CRS008) is enabled.
  • Define outputs only for the product structures that have a structure class type of 'Packaged item product structure' or 'Formula'.

    For example, you may create a Product structure record using 'Product Structure. Open' (PDS001) to model a formula to make orange juice where the 'Product' (PRNO) identifier is set up as 'FORMULA-JUICE' and the output of this formula 'ORANGE-JUICE' is defined in the product structure output table MPDOUT using 'Output Items. Open' (PDS029). The Product number (PRNO) value in the Product structure record indicates that a formula is available to make orange juice, but the actual item being manufactured is defined on the (PDS029) program.

Follow These Steps

  1. Start 'Product Structure. Open' (PDS001) and highlight a product, which is associated with a manufacturing planning process, from the grid on the B panel:

    1. Select Related > End/Output Products (CTRL+15) to launch 'Output Items. Open' (PDS029).

      OR

    2. Open 'Product. Version' (PDS028) and highlight a product associated with a planning process from the grid on the B1 panel:

      Select Related > End/Output Products (CTRL+11) to launch 'Output Items. Open' (PDS029).

  2. On the B panel of 'Output Items. Open' (PDS029), enter an output item in the Item field and select the Create option.

  3. On the E panel, enter the 'Output quantity' and corresponding 'Manufacturing unit of measure' in the Details section.

    Note: For a packaged item product structure, the 'Output quantity' field defaults to a value of 1 and is not changeable.

  4. Click Next to save your changes.

MI transactions

The MI transactions that exist for entering/maintaining output items include:

  • AddOutput - creates an output item for a product structure.
  • UpdOutput - updates an existing output item.
  • DltOutput - deletes an existing output item.
  • GetOutput - retrieves an existing output item.
  • LstOutputs - retrieves and lists existing output items.
