Connect Configuration Element to Product Structure

The purpose of this procedure is to connect formulas, selection matrices and features to open material and operation lines. This is in order to dynamically select item numbers or calculate material quantities and operation times.

Before you start

Before you can begin to connect a configuration element to a product structure, these prerequisites must be met:

  • A product to be configured dynamically is specified in program 'Product Structure. Open' (PDS001). Dynamic configuration is indicated by a value of 1 or 2 in field Dynamic config, on panel PDS001/E. Also, this product must be connected to the basic data to be used for product configuration.
  • Formulas are created in program 'Formula. Open' (CRS570).
  • Selection matrices are created in program 'Selection Matrix. Open' (PDS090).
  • Features are specified in program 'Feature. Open' (PDS055).

Follow these steps

Follow the steps below to connect a product configuration element (formula, selection matrix and feature) to an open product structure line.

  1. Select 'Product Structure. Open' (PDS001), panel B.

  2. Specify option 11=Mtrl/Operation. Program 'Product. Connect Materials/Operations' (PDS002) then starts.

  3. Select sorting order 14 or 15 to update the bill of material. Check your options using F13=Parameters. Make sure you have filled in the search hierarchy for the selection types on panel PDS002/Q.

  4. Specify the product configuration elements to be used to determine component number and material quantity. You can do it for all structure lines without confirming between each line.

  5. Specify the formula result if formulas are used. If one is not specified, the last result from the selected formula is used. When all values have been specified, confirm the changes. After this, the search hierarchy is used to determine the type of configuration element, which is specified in each material line. If the proposal should be changed, you can specify any type of configuration element. Remember to confirm if the type of configuration element is changed manually.

  6. Select sorting order 1 or 2 to connect formulas for calculating an operation's run time and setup time.

  7. Display the detail panel for the current operation (PDS002/G is displayed). Scroll forward to the next panel (PDS002/H). Specify the formulas and formula results for run time and setup time, and then confirm the change. If the formula result is not specified, the last result from the selected formula is used.

Output

A product configuration element is connected to a product structure when using this procedure. It can then be used when a product is configured.
