Enabling Manufacturing Settings
This document explains how to adjust basic data to the manufacturing processes of your company.
Outcome
The settings for the manufacturing process on the company, division, and facility levels are adjusted to match the processes of your company.
The suggested settings to be used during the enabling process are defined in the scheduling and execute manufacturing order processes. The suggested values can be corrected if necessary. When one or several items have been connected to facility and warehouse, manufacturing orders (MO) can be created and released.
Before you start
- Basic data for facility and an item register must be specified.
- A company must be defined in 'Company. Open' (MNS095).
- A division must be defined in 'Company. Connect Division' (MNS100).
- See instructions.
Follow these steps
-
Define manufacturing settings for company
The activity describes the settings for manufacturing that are the same for the entire company. The settings for the company should be set when the process is first implemented at the company, and they are modified and completed when necessary.
Create product structure type
The structure type enables you to use the product structure in different configurations. The structure type is defined in 'Product Structure Type. Open' (CRS087).
Define product structure
First, you decide whether to use product structure. If yes, continue with product structure type that should be automatically proposed in the planned manufacturing order.
All the above is specified in 'Settings - Product Structure' (CRS787).
Define capacity requirements planning
Different factors that determine load are specified in 'Settings - Capacity Planning' (CRS786).
Create number series
Different number series are used in production activity control. Different number series are used for the following type of numbers:
- 10-1 Reporting number
- 10-2 Production lot
- 17 Scrap number
- 19 Sequence number, product structures
- 26 Manufacturing Order number
- 27 Sequence number – Schedule number
- 35 Planned manufacturing order
If you need to activate and specify number series, you start 'Number Series. Open' (CRS165).
Create disturbance type
The disturbance type is used to give information about the cause of the disturbance, when reducing the production time with the disturbance time, or just as information. It is also possible to let the disturbance reporting generate a mail when a disturbance in the production is reported.
The disturbance types are specified in 'Disturbance Type. Open' (PDS044).
Define manufacturing orders
Operations and material can be automatically flagged as completed when receipts are flagged as completed, and material with zero quantity can be copied to manufacturing orders when they are created. This is specified in 'Settings - Manufacturing Orders' (CRS785).
In addition, the pack order type (PAOT) specified in (CRS785) is used upon the creation of a parent pack manufacturing order, i.e. its Process code (PCCO) is '4'. The pack order type is retrieved to create a planned order for the bulk item only when the normal acquisition code (PUIT) is a value other than 1-'Manufacturing'. The selected pack order type is populated into the order type (ORTY) field on 'Planned MO. Open' (PMS170).
Create manufacturing order type
To define a collective identity for a set of rules that determine how a manufacturing order is processed in the order flow, you can define a manufacturing order type.
The manufacturing order type is defined in 'Manufacturing Order Type. Open' (PMS120).
The manufacturing order type determines the manufacturing order flow. How to administrate manufacturing orders, create order numbers and calculate time and costing are specified on the E panel.
How to administrate picking lists, back orders and reporting on manufacturing orders are defined on the F panel.
The manufacturing order type has fields related to the Quality Management System (QMS), if a manufacturing order is created in a facility whose division has the '407 Quality Management' field set to enable QMS. The manufacturing order type has a setting to determine the test frequency basis in QMS for each manufacturing order type. In addition, there is a QI request timing (QIRT) field on the manufacturing order type (MWORDT) table where a value of '1' indicates the QI request is created upon MO release and '2' sets the timing of creating a QI request upon reporting the MO receipt. See Quality Management System (QMS) and Its Impact on Manufacturing Order Processing for more information on these QMS-related fields.
Define operation reporting
The settings for operation reporting are predefined on the division level (blank division). These are the valid alternatives:
- Automatic completion of MO, components, operations
- Allow reporting of completed MO and component
- Parallel operation
- Time calculation for reporting operation and parallel jobs
- Bar codes on MO documents
You can specify operation reporting in 'Settings - Operation Reporting' (PMS490).
Define view for W/C schedule
User defined views for the work center schedule can be created. The user select which fields to be displayed, the sort order and from – to selection for limitation of the number of the records displayed. All fields in the files MWOOPE and MWOHED and some fields from MITMAS can be selected.
You can define views in 'Panel Vsn - W/C Schedule. Open' (PMS231).
-
Define manufacturing settings for division
The activity determines the settings for manufacturing that are the same for the entire division. The settings for the division should be set when the process is first implemented at the division, and they are modified and completed when necessary
This activity include settings for the system calendar.
The system calendar is created in 'System Calendar. Create Days' (CRS905).
The system calendar can be adjusted when needed in 'System Calendar. Open' (CRS900).
-
Define manufacturing settings for facility
This activity administrates how objects should be handled in a special facility.
You can select whether M3 Scheduling Workbench (SWB) should be used.
The manufacturing settings for the facility are set in 'Facility. Open' (CRS008).
-
Define manufacturing settings for Item/Facility
This activity connects a defined item to a facility. Whether a product uses line planning is set on the E panel. On the F panel you can specify the lead time method for a manufacturing order and/or orderless production.
The item is connected to a facility in 'Item. Connect Facility' (MMS003).
-
Connect and define manufacturing settings for Item/Warehouse
The values set in this activity will be suggested values in both manufacturing orders and product data management processes.
Connect manufacturing settings to item/warehouse
This activity connects the item to a special warehouse in 'Item. Connect Warehouse' (MMS002/B1).
Planning policy
In the planning policy you can define a number of rules that determine how the generation of planned order, action messages and warning messages is to be applied.
New planning policies are created in 'Planning Policy. Open' (MMS037).
Planning values for item per warehouse
This activity defines the planning values for a product per warehouse. If an item is defined as a manufactured item it needs an order type. Whether the item should be a part of the master schedule and how an item need should be managed is also defined.
Item/warehouse is defined in 'Item. Connect Warehouse' (MMS002E).
