Creating, Following Up, and Printing Out Manufacturing Statistics

This document explains how you carry out actual costing on manufacturing order (MO) and identify deviations in the result against what has been planned. Deviations can for example apply to quantities, resource utilization, lead times or costs.

The process is complete when a period's statistics are analyzed and printed out.

How often the process is carried out is determined by production status. For repetitive production, the average value per month is usually the most interesting.

Outcome

You have generated statistics and followed them up in one/more of the following forms:

  • Individual order
  • Average value
  • Statistics per work center.

You have also printed out and distributed statistics via e-mail, fax or printer.

If statistics indicate systematic deviations, basic product data or costing models, for example, should be modified so that planning in the future better corresponds with results.

Statistics can be used to illustrate trends and facilitate long-term production planning. They can also be used to identify weak areas in the manufacturing process and constitute the basis for improvements.

For further information on how M3 is affected, see the corresponding documents in the See also section.

Before you start

In order for the process to work the following is required:

That re-reporting from the shop floor is complete for the time period that will be transferred to production statistics. An incomplete re-reported manufacturing order cannot be transferred.

Outline

The process includes the following activities, where either of the two can be excluded:

  • Follow Up Statistics items and Print Statistics for Average Values

    or

  • Follow Up Statistics items and Print Statistics for W/C

Follow these steps

  1. Basic settings

Here is where you set up the parameters for statistics calculations, for example, the unit and number of years statistics should be saved. You can also define the costing component and how the different costing components will be totaled.

Look at the table above to see in which program, statistics parameters and costing components are defined.

  2. Create views and sorting orders

Both views and sorting orders are user-defined in M3. This means that the user can select what to present.

Look at the table above to see in which program, views and sorting orders are defined.

  3. Create production statistics

In order to work with statistics programs, statistical data must be retrieved from completed MOs. Refer to the table above for the applicable program.

    • Follow up an individual manufacturing order

Individual orders can be followed up from the production statistics that are created.

Refer to the table above for the applicable program.

    • Follow up the average value

From the production statistics that are created, the average value for a manufacturing order for a certain time period can be retrieved. Values can be used to find deviations and the reasons for these.

Refer to the table above for the applicable program.

    • Follow up statistics per planning group

To find deviations per planning group as well as possible reasons for these, statistics per planning group can be retrieved.

Refer to the table above for the applicable program.

  4. Distribute statistics

Here can you define which information you want to distribute/store via printer, fax, file or e-mail.

Refer to the table above for the applicable program.
