Estimating Job Content
This document explains how you estimate the different requirements for a work request. Such requirements include time and materials, tools, skills, job instructions and permits.
Use this process when you want to estimate and link all the requirements for a specific job. The maintenance planner normally performs this process.
Outcome
A fully estimated work request, together with an accurate estimation of the complete cost to complete the job.
Uses
When the estimation process is completed, the work request is normally ready to be released to 'Work Order. Open' (MOS100). Before release it is also possible to check the workload on the resources that are to be used.
How the System Is Affected
See the respective instructions listed at the end of this document for information about the files that are updated in this process.
Before you start
- The starting conditions listed in Planning and Releasing Maintenance Work Requests must be met.
- A work request with status 20 or higher must exist in 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170).
Follow These Steps
-
Estimate Job Content – Labor and Time
Estimate and connect labor resources to the work request. It is also possible to add new operations when needed, such as when the work request contains a general service without specified operations. It is possible to enter the estimated time requirements for each operation.
Estimate labor and time requirements in 'Work Request. Open Line' (MOS171).
-
Estimate Job Content – Stocked Materials
Connect materials or spare parts that are held in your inventory to the work request. Materials can be added either manually or via the equipment structure. The materials you enter here will be reserved to ensure that they are available when work begins.
Estimate stocked materials in 'Work Request. Open Line' (MOS171) and 'Work Order. Add Spare Parts' (MOS107).
-
Estimate Job Contents – Non-Stocked Materials
Connect materials that are not held in stock to the work request. When this is done, a purchase request will be created when the order is released. This ensures that all materials needed are available when work is planned to start.
Connect non-stocked materials to work requests in 'Work Request. Open Line' (MOS171).
-
Estimate Job Content – Tools
Connect tools that are required to the work request. This procedure will reserve the tool to make sure it is available when work is to start.
Connect tools to the work request in 'Work Request. Open Op Element' (MOS172).
-
Estimate Job Content – Skills
Connect specific skills to a work request when a job requires certain knowledge.
Connect skills to the operation elements in 'Work Request Operation. Open Op Element' (MOS172).
-
Estimate Job Content – Job Instructions
Connect job instructions to work requests to indicate any specific instructions that are required. The text can be predefined or entered manually. It is then printed on the work order.
Job instructions are entered in 'Work Request. Open Line' (MOS171).
-
Estimate Job Content – Permits
Add permits to a work request when the job requires that certain preparations be done to properly isolate the equipment that is to be maintained. This would, for example, be the case when electricity needs to be disconnected before a job can be performed safely, or when the atmosphere inside a vessel needs to be tested before entry.
Permits are connected to work requests in 'Work Request Operation. Open Op Element' (MOS172).
