Update Meter Readings and Operation Plan from Manufacturing Orders

This document describes how to update meter readings on equipment and tools that are connected to a manufacturing order. The planned manufacturing orders can also update the operation plan for the attached equipment or tool.

Concepts

Meter updates:

During manufacturing in a factory, a machine or a tool is often used. To schedule maintenance of this machine equipment or tool meter readings must be updated.

Manual reporting in 'Equipment. Report Meter Reading' (MOS160) is commonly used for the whole production line (planning position). An alternative is to connect the equipment or tool to the manufacturing order and update the usage based on reported manufactured quantity.

Operation plan updates:

To run service requirements planning (SRP) for equipment or tools used in manufacturing, an operation plan must exist for the equipment or the planning position where it is installed. This can be done with a batch run to check all planned manufacturing orders and update all attached equipment or tools.

Prerequisites

Create link between maintenance and manufacturing:

In 'Operation Element. Open' (PDS025), which you reach using related option 14='Operation Elements' in 'Work Center. Open' (PDS010), you must link the equipment to the manufacturing work center. This can be done on an equipment level, that is for each equipment, or at planning position level. All equipment below that planning position is then updated.

To do this at equipment level, you specify a new record of type 2 or 3 in (PDS025) and the equipment number including the serial number. Create the record and remember to specify the serial number.

To do this at planning position level, you must create the planning position as a dummy equipment. Use 'Equipment/Serialized Item. Open' (MMS240) and create an equipment with the same name as the planning position. Ignore any messages you receive during these steps. You can then create the record in (PDS025) in the same way as on equipment level.

Doing this at the planning position level is a preferred solution, because if an equipment moves, the system automatically takes that into account. At the equipment level you must edit the record in (PDS025) each time you move an equipment.

On 'Item. Open' (MMS001/J):

The conversion factor between the reported manufactured quantity and the maintenance meter must be specified against the appropriate meters on (MMS001/J) in the 'Meter value' field. For example, if the manufacturing meter is the same as the maintenance meter then this can be 1. If for every 1000 manufactured products the maintenance meter should be updated by 1 then the meter value on (MMS001/J) should be set to 0.001. This must be done for each equipment or against the dummy planning position record as described for the planning position level, to update all equipment below it. You can specify this value against more than one meter if required. A similar setup can be done based on the used hours of the equipment instead of quantity.

To update the operation plan, 'Tool maint pln' on (MMS001/J) must be activated.

Only planned manufacturing orders are taken into consideration when updating an operation plan.

Update meter readings

It is possible to automatically update meter readings for equipment or tools used when manufacturing parts. Setup must be done according to the prerequisites and when manufacturing operations are reported in 'MO Operation. Report' (PMS070), the meter readings in 'Equipment/Ser Item. Open Meter Reading' (MMS241) are updated.

Update operation plan

To retrieve an operation plan for an equipment or tool, or the planning position where it is installed, you can use 'Operation Plan. Create' (MOS370). The batch run from there goes through all planned manufacturing orders in 'Planned MO. Open' (PMS170) and look for connected equipment or tools.
Note: Released orders in 'Manufacturing Order. Open' (PMS100) are not taken into consideration.

What can go wrong

  • If the operation plan is not updated, ensure that 'Tool maint pln' is activated on (MMS001/J).
  • If meter readings are not updated, ensure that the serial number is defined on the operation element.
