Create a Service by Copying a Work Order

This document explains how to copy an existing work order including bill of material and operation elements, into a new service.

This can be useful if you have performed planning and preparation on a work order and maybe added new operations and materials. Based on the information you acquired it can be used to create an accurately defined new service for similar work that will be performed in the future.

Outcome

A new service is created and set to status 10-'Preliminary'. Depending on selections on the copy screen, the new service can be created in 'Service. Open' (MOS300) or in 'Service Revision. Open' (ECS300). If new operations and materials were added to the work order, these are included in the new service.

The product structure in 'Product. Connect Materials/Operations' (PDS002) or 'Service revision. Connect Op and Mat' (ECS312) for the product that the new service refers to is updated with details such as operations and material, copied from the work order.

A service created by copying a work order should be reviewed and you must, if necessary, adjust the preliminary service before you approve it. The service is approved by changing the status to 20-'Definite'. This is done in (MOS300) or (ECS300).

Before you start

'Service. Open' (MOS100) must contain a work order.

Follow these steps

  1. Start 'Work Order. Open' (MOS100).

  2. Select the work order that you want to use as a template and select the option 'Copy to service' to access the Q panel.

  3. Define the new service:
    • Product
    • Structure type
    • Service ID
    • Service category (this can be the same or a different service category)
  4. Select the 'ECO managed' check box if the new service should be created in (ECS300) instead of (MOS300).

Variants

There are a few variants and settings that affect the behavior and results when using this function.

Multi operations:

If the service product for the new service is defined in 'Model/Site. Open' (MOS400) as 'Multi operations', the operation numbers and material sequence numbers combined with the 'From date' field value, are unique for the service. As such, they cannot be reused for other services.

In this variant the operation numbers and material sequence numbers from the work order are not used. Instead the operations get number 10, 20, etc, with addition of a unique 'from date' number issued from a number series.

If 'Multi operations' is not used, the same operation and material sequence can be reused on many services. In this scenario the services are renumbered based on the highest number of existing operations in (PDS002) or (ECS312), increased by 10.

Consolidated facility (from 'Settings - Maintenance 1' (CRS788)):

If the WO service is defined against the consolidated facility in (MOS301), the new service is also defined against that facility. In this scenario, the work centers used on the work order, are translated to a consolidated work center through the work center type in 'Work Center. Open' (PDS010) when the operations are created in (PDS002) or (ECS312).
