Service Hierarchy

This process should be followed if you want to define services in a hierarchy, for example based on model instead of product.

Background

As many service procedures are almost the same for equipment within the same model, the number of services in the database can be significantly reduced by introducing a service hierarchy. Reducing the number of services will also significantly reduce upkeep of the service database. The quality of the data in the service database will also be improved by reducing the number of services to maintain.

By using the model fields in the equipment master file, you can define a service hierarchy.

  • Sales model example D11T
  • Dealer model example D11TQ_01
  • Price model example D11TQ/D11T

Services can now be defined for all the model fields in the equipment master file in 'Equipment/Serialized Item. Open' (MMS240).

In addition, you can use effectivity to limit the applicability to a specific serial number range or product number.

Before you start

Basic settings in M3 must be defined in order to specify equipment and service information. In addition, model IDs must be defined in the item master and in each separate model function.

  • 'Model/Site. Open' (MOS400)
  • 'Sales Model. Open' (MOS461)
  • 'Dealer Model. Open' (MOS463)
  • 'Price Model. Open' (MOS462)

If a service type is used, it must be specified in 'Service Type. Open' (MOS351).

Follow these steps

Complete these steps to define a service hierarchy.

  1. Open 'Service. Open' (MOS300).

  2. To minimize upkeep of service definitions, select the consolidated facility. This means that you do not have to define all details for each facility. However, if some facilities have different resources, you can later define the service for that facility specifically. When you create a work order the search starts with the specific facility for the work or-der and if it is found takes the specific data from that facility. If it is not found, the service details are taken from the consolidated facility.

  3. Select the service category you want to define the service for: 6-'Model', 7-'Sales model', 8-'Dealer model' or 9-'Price model'.

  4. Specify the product ID for the service. The product must match the service category selected. If 6-'Model' is selected, the ID must exist in 'Model/Site. Open' (MOS400). If 7-'Sales model' is selected, the ID must exist in 'Sales Model. Open' (MOS461). If 8-'Dealer model' is selected, the ID must exist in 'Dealer Model Open' (MOS463). If 9-'Price model' is selected, the ID must exist in 'Price Model. Open' (MOS462).

  5. Specify the structure type and service ID the same way as when you specify a normal service. Select the Create option to open the E panel.

  6. If you want to add a service type, you can do that now (at the top of the panel). The service type can also be specified on the B panel if the display filter is active. The category from the service type will update the service for easy selection by category later on.

  7. Specify a description and other required information in the detail panels. Press Enter through the panel sequence to save the service in the database and redisplay the B panel.

  8. If the service is not valid for all equipment with the specific model, select related option 24='Effectivity' to open 'Service. Connect Effectivity' (MOS314) and define the product and serial number for the valid or invalid equipment.

The setting 'Excluded item' on (MOS300/F) determines whether the equipment is valid or invalid.

All product IDs (product, model, sales model, dealer model, price model) can be defined with a serial number range. Multiple ranges can be defined for all products.

  9. Update the equipment master file for the each piece of equipment that should have this model assigned to it.

Outcome

Services can be defined on a higher level than product level, so that you do not have to define each service for every product. Completely generic services can of course be defined without a product number at all. You are now ready to start service requirements planning (SRP) for the equipment or manually specify the work request or work order with services based on the model ID defined for the equipment in (MMS240).
