Basic Prerequisites for As-built Structures

In this document the prerequisite settings and setup are detailed for creating and maintaining as-built structures.

Removal reason in (MOS126)

A removal reason record is required in 'Removal reason. Open' (MOS126).

Removal and installation transaction types in (MOS123)

  • One transaction type per R/I transaction code is required. This is for transaction codes 'Only remove', 'Remove & install', and 'Only install'. The same number series can be used for all.
  • Reference order category must be set to 6 if you want to refer to a work order and for the removal to create a negative return line on the WO.
  • The exchange setting is used in combination with on hand method 2 in 'Item. Connect Facility' (MMS003) and the owner functionality in 'Equipment/Serialized Item. Open' (MMS240). With these settings an owner change can be done when a removal or install transaction is performed.
  • Status must be set to 20 for the action to trigger directly without needing confirmation in 'Equipment Structure. Display Rem/Inst' (MOS124).
  • Troubleshooting is set to determine if a removed component should get status 1, 2, or 3 in stock. This is normally used if components are replaced for troubleshooting. In that case they can be removed in status 2 until it is confirmed that the problem is solved. Normally the status should be 1 or 3 after the removal.
  • Create retro WO is used when you need to quickly remove or install an item and create the WO when the job is already done, to report time spend and any eventual spare parts used.
  • Create work request is used to create a planned WO for the removed component, to determine subsequent actions for the component.

Settings for maintenance 1 in (CRS788)

Parameters '07 Warehouse for installed items', '08 Location for installed items', '09 Order type for item/equipment removal', '10 Order type for item/equipment installation', and '45 Order type for installation/removal' used in 'Settings – Maintenance 1' (CRS788) must be configured in 'Warehouse. Open' (MMS005), 'Stock Location. Open' (MMS010), and 'Removal/Installation Trans Type. Open' (MOS123):

In (CRS788) the warehouse for installed items and location is used in combination with the setting 'S/N admin' specified as 2 in 'Model/Site. Open' (MOS400) and 'Model/Site Individual. Open' (MOS250). This setting defines if removal installations should affect stock movements or not. If it is specified as '2' installed components are moved to the specified warehouse and location.

Standard numbering system in (CRS247) and standard numbering level in (CRS248)

Using 'Standard Numbering System. Open' (CRS247) and 'Standard Numbering Level. Open' (CRS248) you can build a logic for how the numbering in an as-built structure should be managed. Using an unstructured logic, leaves it open to be built when created. There may be a branch specific numbering standard that can be used, such as the ATA numbering system for the aviation industry.

Item type in (CRS040)

In 'Item Type. Open' (CRS040) you specify the item type.

An item type with a template item and template serial number can be used to make it easier to create new serialized items with the correct settings. Numbering rules can also be used if the item and serial numbers are not manually defined. For MRO 'Item category' must be specified as 7-'Repairable item' and for plant maintenance it must be specified as 5-'Fixed machine'.

Managing items in (MMS001)

Use this setup for an item template in 'Item. Open' (MMS001) that should be used for serialized items that should be installed in an as-built structure.

Program Setting
MMS001/E Lot ctrl method specified as 2-'Lot no.=Ser no'
MMS001/E Lot number method specified as 0-'Manual entry', usually provided by the OEM
MMS001/G Config code specified as 4-'Maintenance item'
MMS001/G Item category specified as 7-'Repairable item' (retrieved from item type)
MMS001/J All settings on (MMS001/J), such as planning information and meters, are set by default for new serialized items.

Meters connected in (MMS001/J):

Meters connected in (MMS001/J) must be defined in 'Meter. Open' (MMS051). Normally you can set a calendar meter such as 'DAYS' and some non-calendar meters, if required, such as HOURS, CYCLES, MILES. The 'Ttp' (trigger type) field is normally set as trigger type 0-'Reported manually'. This is the case when it is not related to any operation reporting in programs such as (MOS070).

Models on (MMS001/K) :

The value for 'Model/site' equals the template model attached to (MOS400) for automatic creation of the model in (MOS400) when an item is created by copying of a template.

If 'Create new model' on (MMS001/C) is activated when copying an item, the model in (MOS400) is automatically created based on the (MOS400) template. When the K panel is opened in the sequence, a model with the same name as the item is displayed. However, it is possible to reuse the same model for many items. This can be useful if there are only minor differences between several models.

Important settings in (MOS120)

The 'Activate configuration control' check box must be selected in 'Work Order Type. Open' (MOS120) for the removal/installation screen in 'As-built structure. Update Removal/Inst' (MOS125) to automatically open before closing a removal/installation WO.

Parameter 210 'Dispatch policy' defines that a WO picking list should be used instead of the old requisition orders parameter 120 'Req order type for material issues'. If this is used parameter 211 'Delayed mtrl issue - Cfrm issue/return in MOS101' and 215 'Use Remove/Install functionality for repairables' can also be used.

Parameter 211 'Delayed mtrl issue - Cfrm issue/return in MOS101' activates delayed issues in the WO process, which means that you must confirm if the issued material from stock is really used or should be returned.

Parameter 215 'Use Remove/Install functionality for repairables' activates the removal or installation process for the material. This results in specific order categories in material plan 660 and 670, indicating that when there is a need for a serialized item on a WO, a used component will be sent back after removal. With this you can avoid purchasing new components.
