Defining a Model Configuration and Creating an As-built Configuration

This document explains how you define configurations. A configuration is a model that describes the build up of a structure. A structure can be for example a factory, an aircraft or an engine.

The document explains how to define the model configuration as well as how to define the as-built configuration. The model configuration contains the rules for how a structure is set up. The as-built configuration contains information about how the actual aircraft or engine is set up.

Use this process when you need to describe new structures, for example if you have bought a new type of aircraft or installed new machines in your factory.

Outcome

When the entire process is completed the following is defined:

  • The model configuration.
  • The as-built configuration.

The configuration contains information about:

  • what a configuration looks like
  • how many levels there are in the configuration
  • the installation positions in which components may be installed
  • what components are fitted in a structure
  • Possible variants of a configuration.

Information about the configuration is stored in the following files:

  • Model (MCFMOD)
  • Components (MCFCVA)
  • Configuration positions (MCFLOC)
  • Configuration structure (MCFSTR)
  • Serial number (MILOIN)
  • As-build structure (MROABS)
  • Model individual (MROMIN)

Configurations are used for a variety of purposes. The configuration gives you the following information:

  • What alternate material can be used in the construction described.
  • In which constructions the material described can be fitted.
  • If the described construction is complete and in accordance with the defined rules. An aircraft, for example, will not be serviceable until all configuration positions marked as mandatory are filled.

Before you start

  • All items that are to be included in a configuration must be registered in 'Item. Open' (MMS001).
  • Structure type for installation structure (=16) must be Installation in 'Settings – Maintenance 1' (CRS788).
  • Structure type for analysis of complaints (=17) must be Repair in 'Settings - Maintenance 1' (CRS788) (optional).
  • A numbering system must be defined in 'Standard Numbering System. Open' (CRS247).
  • A standard numbering level must be defined in 'Standard Numbering Level. Open' (CRS248).
  • A standard numbering ID must be defined in 'Standard Numbering ID. Open' (CRS249).

Follow These Steps

  1. Define the Model Configuration

    Define the model configuration for the new configuration. This contains information about what the configuration looks like, the variants that exist, the configuration ID and what numbering system used.

    The model configuration also gives information about what configuration positions that are present in a configuration. A vehicle, for example, can have an engine, a gearbox and four wheels. Also, the model contains information about what parts may be installed in the positions in a configuration.

  2. Create the As-built Configuration

    Define the as-built configuration after the model rules are defined. The as-built configuration contains information about what the actual configuration looks like. This means that this is done on registration number level. It tells you which of the possible parts that is installed in a certain structure, for example an aircraft.
