Connect Operation Elements to a Service Operation

This document explains how to describe and connect operation elements to each operation connected to a service. It also explains how to define run times and setup times for each operation element.

Operation element is used as a combined concept for documenting and connecting relevant information to a service operation. Examples are skills or certificates, tools, a geographical location, documents, inspections checklists or charges.

Operation element connected to a specific service operation will be connected to work orders on which that specific operation is added.

Use this instruction to describe all elements in an operation.

Outcome

Selected operations in a service are described with an operation type, setup times, run times, and required labor skills and number of workers.

Information about operation elements is stored in the file (MPDOPE).

The operation elements can be selected for printout when the labor tickets for the service are printed.

If selected, the time specifications for each operation element can override the total run time of the operation that has been specified in (PDS002). Run times are used for lead time and load calculations.

Restrictions

Only operation element types 1 (work element), 2 (work element – descriptive) and 5 (inspection) are described in this document.

Before you start

A service must be defined in 'Service. Open' (MOS300).
At least one operation must be defined for a service in 'Product. Connect Materials/Operations' (PDS002).

Follow these steps

Start 'Service. Open' (MOS300/B) and select an appropriate sorting order.

The recommended sorting orders are 1='Product number' and 2='Service'.
Select the service to describe operation elements and select option 12='Operations/Materials' to display 'Product. Connect Materials/Operations' (PDS002).
Select a sorting order to identify the operation for which you wish to define operation elements.

The recommended sorting orders are 3='Components/W/C' and 21='Work center'.

Select the operation and select option 19='Operation Element' to display 'Operation. Connect Operation Elements' (PDS027).

In (PDS027/B), different types of operations elements (0-7) can be added. The operation elements types serve different purposes, for example connecting skills, tools or inspections to the operation. The operation element type also controls what program is used as the selction program for the operation element ID.


Op element type	Name	Description
0	Geographical element	Created automatically during creation of work orders if setting for Facility/Order Type in 'Settings – Employee Allocation' (CBS020) indicates that geographical allocation of employees is used.
1	Work element	The setup times and run times specified on the E panel are used for load and lead time calculations.

3	Tool	Connect a tool from 'Item. Open Toolbox' (MMS001) to the operation.
4	Document	Connect a document from 'Document. Open' (CRS230) to the operation.
5	Inspection	Connect an inspection ID from 'Quality Inspection. Open' (PDS040) to the operation.
6	Permit	Connect a permit from 'Permit. Open' (PDS046) to the operation.
7	Miscellaneous cost	Connect a charge from 'Cost Type. Open for Miscellaneous Costs' (COS160) to the operation.

Connect Work Elements (Op Element Typ 1 or 2):

Specify an operation element sequence number and operation element type 1 or 2. Select 'New Record' to display the E panel.
Specify an operation element description.

The operation element type is a description of the operation. However, when type 1 is specified, the setup times and run times specified on the E panel are used for load and lead time calculations.
Specify the setup time and the number of workers needed for setting up the operation before it can begin.

If more than one operation element is included in an operation, the operation's setup time equals the sum of the setup times of the elements.
Specify the operation run time, the unit of measure and the number of workers required.

If more than one operation element is included in an operation, the operation's run time equals the sum of the run times of the elements.
Specify the skill required to perform the operation element (optional).

Skills can be defined in 'Labor Skill. Open' (CRS088).
Specify the free text to be printed on the different order documents and click 'Enter' to finish.

Connect Inspection Elements:

In PDS027/B, specify operation element type '5-Quality Inspection' in field 'Etp'.
Browse using F4 on 'op element ID' field to select an operation element identity from 'Quality Inspection. Open' (PDS040)
Select 'Create' to display the E panel.
In (PDS027/E) specify the setup time, the number of workers and the run time. This data will not override the data on the operation.
Specify the skill required to perform the operation element in 'Labor Skill. Open' (CRS088) (optional).
Specify free text to be printed on the different order documents (optional).
Click 'Enter' to finish. The selected quality inspection is now connected to the operation. When a work order is created with this operation, the connected inspection elements will appear in 'WO Operation. Report Inspection Results' (MOS085) where the inspections results can be reported.
