Calculate and Display Product Costing for a Service

This document explains how you calculate and display the product costing for a service and, if applicable, its related services. This allows you to find out what your planned costs for a service are.

Use this activity when you want to find out how much a service costs you to perform.

Outcome

When the activity is completed you have service cost information for a service. This information is based on the following factors:

  • Facility used
  • Work center costs
  • Material costs
  • Service bill of material.

Information about costing calculations is stored in the (MCHEAD) file.

The information can be used when you set the cost price for services that you perform. The information may also be used to compare planned costs and actual costs.

Before you start

  • A service must be defined in 'Service. Open' (MOS300).
  • A product structure should be defined in 'Product. Connect Materials/Operations' (PDS002).
  • A record for each facility where you want costing generated must exist in 'Service. Connect Alternate Facilities' (MOS312). This is only applicable if the service is defined only using the '00 Consolidated facility' parameter in 'Settings - Maintenance 1' (CRS788).

Follow these steps

Calculate service costing

  1. Start 'Product Costing. Calculate Service' (PCS235/E).

  2. Specify the facility and product number for which the calculation is to be performed.

When not limited, costing is calculated for all products.

  3. Specify the service for which the calculation is to be performed (optional).

  4. Specify status, service group and process type (optional fields).

  5. Specify a costing type.

Nine costing types can be defined in 'Costing Type. Open' (PCS005).

  6. Specify a costing name (optional).

  7. Specify the date on which costing is to be performed. Press Enter to display the F panel.

  8. Optionally, on the F panel, specify a new order quantity. Press Enter to finish.

Display service costing

  1. Start 'Service. Open' (MOS300/B).

  2. Select sorting order 1 or 2 to find the correct service.

  3. Select the service for which you want to display the costing calculation and select related option 26='Display Costing'. 'Product Costing. Display' (PCS300/B) is opened.

The results of the different costing calculations are displayed as a list.

  4. It is possible to run sales price simulations using related option 23='Sales/Cost Simulation'.

The simulation program allows you to simulate different sales prices and contribution margins.

Calculate related service costing

  1. Start 'Service. Calculate Cost' (MOS345/E).

  2. Specify the facility and the main service for which costing is to be performed.

  3. Specify a costing name if applicable.

  4. Specify whether only mandatory related services should be included, or both mandatory and optional services. Press Enter to display the F panel.

  5. Optionally, on the F panel, specify additional limitations and press Enter to finish.

Display related service costing

  1. Start 'Service. Open' (MOS300/B).

  2. Select the service for which you want to display the costing calculation and select related option 27='Related Service Costing' to open 'Service. Display Related Service Cost' (MOS355).

The results of the different calculations are displayed as a list.
