Define Effectivity for Components and Configuration Positions

This document explains how you define the effectivity for different components in a configuration. The effectivity limits the possibility to install components in a configuration. This is a convenient feature that lets you handle different versions of the same model and different modifications.

Use this instruction when you need to limit the possibility to install a component to certain models.

Outcome

A component may only be installed in a configuration position if it meets the criteria defined in the effectivity.

Effectivity can be defined from the following criteria:

  • Serial number
  • Effectivity code
  • Model level
  • Pre engineering order
  • Post engineering order
  • Information/text

The file with information about component effectivity (MCFMTE) is updated.

Use the limitation to prevent unapproved parts from being installed in a configuration in 'As-Built Structure. Update Removal/Inst' (MOS125).

Before you start

Components must be connected to a configuration in 'Position. Connect Components' (MOS450).

Follow These Steps

  1. Start 'Position. Connect Components' (MOS450/B).

  2. Select the model or site for which you wish to define effectivity.

  3. Select the appropriate sorting order.

The recommended alternatives are: 1-'Model/site', 2-'Position', 3-'Component ID'.

  4. On the B-panel, select option 14='Effectivity' for the configuration position for which you wish to define effectivity.

    Panel (MOS454/B) is activated.

  5. On the B-panel, specify how you will define the effectivity.

  6. Specify the value from which the effectivity is valid. Select 'New Record'.

If effectivity code 1 is chosen, only serial numbers may be used in the effectivity definition. The serial numbers that will be checked are those found for the item in (MMS240).

If effectivity code 2 is selected, only effectivity codes may be used in the effectivity definition. The effectivity codes that will be checked are those found in (MOS250).

  7. On the E-panel, specify the value to which the effectivity is valid. Press Enter.

  8. Repeat steps 4 to 7 for all configuration positions concerned.
