Define Model Editions for a Configuration to Describe Differences and Distinguish between Variants

This document explains how you define a model edition. You define a model edition when you need to describe small changes in the positions in a configuration. One example is if you add a new feature in a car, for example power steering. A new installation position must be created for the pump while the rest of the configuration, the description of the car, remains unchanged.

Use this instruction when you want to describe a model with variations in the installation positions.

Outcome

A model edition is defined. The model edition is a variant of the model and has small differences in the position structure.

Information about model editions is saved in the file (MCFSBT).

Use the model edition list to

  • describe and distinguish between model editions that deviate slightly in the installation position structure
  • define installation positions for a model in 'Model/Site. Connect Position' (MOS440)

(you only need to define the deviating positions if a baseline is specified)

  • to define possible model level/model edition combinations in 'Model. Connect Model Edition & Level' (MOS410).

Before you start

  • A model must be defined in 'Model/Site. Open' (MOS400).
  • A model type should be defined in 'Component. Connect Model/Site Type' (MOS485).

Follow These Steps

  1. Start 'Model/Site. Open' (MOS400/B).

  2. Select the model or site for which you wish to define model editions and choose option 11='Model/Site Editions'.

Panel 'Model/Site. Connect Edition' (MOS430/B) is displayed.

  3. On the B-panel, specify a model edition ID. Select 'New Record'.

    Panel (MOS430/E) is displayed.

  4. Specify the dates between which the model edition is to be valid and a description.

  5. Specify the baseline edition if applicable. Press Enter.

If you specify the baseline edition, all positions are copied from it to the model level. This means that you will only have to specify the records that deviate.
