Define Model Levels for a Configuration to Describe Differences and Distinguish between Variants

This document explains how you define the model level. You define a model level to describe minor component changes in a configuration. One example is if you change the door handles on a car into a new design. The configuration, the car, is not changed, but one of the installed components is different.

Use this instruction when you need to describe minor variations in installed components in a model. Do this before you define the installation positions in a configuration.

Outcome

A model level is defined. The model level is a variant of the model and has small differences in the installation components.

Information about model levels is saved in the file (MCFVER).

Use the model level to:

  • distinguish between different model levels when there is a difference in installable components in a configuration.
  • define possible model level/model edition combinations in 'Model. Connect Model Edition & Level' (MOS410).
  • connect components to positions in a defined model in 'Position. Connect Components' (MOS450).

Before you start

A model must be defined in 'Model/Site. Open' (MOS400).

Follow These Steps

  1. Start 'Model/Site. Open' (MOS400/B).

  2. Select the model or site for which you wish to define model levels and choose option 12='Model/Site Levels'.

    Panel 'Model/Site. Connect Model Level' (MOS420/B) is displayed.

  3. On the B-panel, specify the model level. Select 'New record'.

    Panel (MOS420/E) is displayed.

  4. Specify the dates between which the model level is valid and a description.

  5. Specify the baseline edition if applicable. Press Enter.

    If you specify the baseline edition, all positions are copied from it to the model level. This means that you will only have to specify the records that deviate.
