Defining a Model Configuration

This document explains how you define a model configuration. The model configuration describes the build-up of a structure and the different variants of the configuration. The model contains information about the configuration, the numbering system that is used, the editions and levels that exist.

The model also contains information about what installation positions are present in the configuration and what components that may be installed in the positions.

Use this process when you need to describe new structures, for example if you have bought a new type of aircraft or installed new machines in your factory.

Outcome

When the process in completed the model configuration for a component is defined. The model configuration contains information about:

  • what a configuration looks like
  • how many levels there are in the configuration
  • the installation positions in what components may be installed
  • possible variants of a configuration.

Information about the configuration is stored in the following files:

  • Model (MCFMOD)
  • Components (MCFCVA)
  • Configuration positions (MCFLOC)

Use the model rules when you create the as-built structure.

Before you start

All starting conditions listed in Defining a Model Configuration and Creating an As-built Configuration must be met.

Follow These Steps

  1. Define a Model

The model is an identity to which data is linked. The model can be defined as either a site or an MRO object and is always given a numbering system. The numbering system is used when the model's installation positions are defined. The model also contains information about whether it is a single level or multi level (complex) configuration, and information about the model type. The model type contains information what type of component the unit is. It can be either an operational unit or not an operational unit. An operational unit is the highest in the structure, for example a vehicle or aircraft.

Define models in 'Model/Site. Open' (MOS400).

  2. Define Model Levels and Editions for Complex Configurations

Define model levels and editions to distinguish between variants of the model. The variants have minor differences in the position structure and/or component build up when compared to the baseline model.

Define model levels in 'Model/Site. Connect Model Level' (MOS420).

Define model editions in 'Model/Site. Connect Edition' (MOS430).

  3. Define Installation Positions for the Model

Define the positions in which components can be installed in the configuration. Positions that are defined in the standard numbering system connected to the model may be defined.

When positions are registered for a single level configuration, a record for each position is created in 'Model/Site. Open Config Structure' (MOS445). For a complex configuration, this needs to be done manually.

Register installation positions for the configuration in 'Model/Site. Connect Position' (MOS440).

  4. Connect Installable Components to Installation Positions

Define which components may be installed in the positions you have given the model. This will prevent you from installing any components that are not approved for the model when you create the as-built structure.

Define components for the configuration positions in 'Position. Connect Components' (MOS450).
