Performing Maintenance Availability Checks for Work Order Requests

This document explains how to perform maintenance availability checks to find out whether the required resources for a work request are available. These resources include labor, tools, skills and material.

Use this process when you know what the requirements for a job are and need to find out if you have the resources to perform the job.

Outcome

You know whether you have the necessary resources to perform the job described in the work order request.

The work order request is ready to be planned into the production plan or to be released to a work order in 'Work Order. Open' (MOS100).

Before you start

Follow These Steps

  1. Check Component Availability

Check the component availability to ensure that the materials required to complete the requested job are available when the job is planned to start. The information can be displayed either as a sum total of all available components or as only component shortages.

Perform availability checks in 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170) or 'Work Request. Open Toolbox' (MOS197).

  2. Check Tools Availability

Check the tools availability to ensure that the tools that are required to perform the job will be available when the job is planned to start. The information can be displayed either as a sum total of all available tools or as tool shortages only.

Perform tool availability checks in 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170) or 'Work Request. Open Toolbox' (MOS197).

  3. Check Skills Availability - Graphical

Check the required skill availability to ensure that the job is allocated to a person with the required skill level, and that this employee is available and not allocated on other jobs.

Perform the skills availability check in 'Load. Display Gantt Chart/Employee' (CPS155).

  4. Check Load/Resource Availability – Chart/Graphical

Check the load on work requests to ensure that the work request and its operations do not create overloads in the work center where the work is to be performed. Load checks can be performed either to display the result as a chart or as a graphic. Load checks for work requests are normally performed for long-term planning.

Perform load checks in 'Load. Display per Product' (CPS110) and/or in 'Load. Display Gantt Chart Planned WOs' (CPS145).

  5. Check Employee Availability – Graphical

Check the employee availability to ensure that workers are available to perform the work when it is planned to begin. Workers that are linked to either work order request operations and/or work order operations, as well as workers that are automatically allocated to jobs, are displayed here.

Perform employee availability checks in 'Load. Display per Person' (CPS170) and 'Load. Display Total/Employee' (CPS160).
