Generating Work Requests

This document explains how you generate work requests. A work request is a formal request for work to be carried out. Work requests can be generated automatically for recurring work or manually for one-time-only requirements. Once work requests are estimated and approved, they can be turned into work orders.

Outcome

A work request is registered. This contains one or more suggested services to be performed on equipment or other parts of the plant.

Information about the work request is stored in the following files:

  • Work request header (MWOPLP)
  • Work request operations (MMPOPE).

A work request can be replanned and modified in different ways before it is released to become a work order. A work request can also be rejected.

Before the work request is released, it is possible to:

  • Check components, tools and skills availability
  • Check the current load and the capacity you have to perform the work
  • Check any related services
  • Allocate employees
  • Estimate the job content including adding operations, tools, spare parts, and purchase and permit/lockout requirements
  • Group the work requests according to different criteria and release them to work orders.

Refer to documents listed in the See also section for more information about the files that are affected.

Before you start

  • A service must exist in 'Service. Open' (MOS300).
  • An equipment or position must exist in (MMS240) or (MOS440).

Follow These Steps

  1. Generate Interval-Based Work Request Automatically

When equipment or positions are connected to a service defined with specific intervals, work requests are created according to the predefined planning horizon and usage forecast, or when the reported meter readings exceed the service intervals.

  2. Generate Interval-Based Work Requests Manually

It is possible to trigger an interval-based service manually when necessary. This might be the case if a machine was subjected to more stress than normal and therefore requires maintenance.

Manually created work requests that were originally meant to be interval based are created in 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170) or in 'Work Request. Quick Entry' (MOS185).

  3. Generate Work Request Manually

Work requests can be created manually in different ways depending on the nature of the condition causing the work to be requested. Work requests can be entered in one of the following ways.

Generate Standard Work Request This method is normally used for general maintenance work. Work requests created here by the user normally require authorization by a manager before a maintenance planner continues to plan the work. Enter the request in 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170).
Generate Work Request Using Quick Entry The requests generated here are normally for general maintenance work and not for emergency type work. As in Generating Standard Work Request, requests generated here normally require authorization from a manager. This entry method is quicker, but more limited as it does not provide access to all fields available in (MOS170). The quick entry method does not allow changes to work requests. Enter the request in 'Work Request. Quick Entry' (MOS185).
Generate a Selection of Work Requests

Several work requests can be generated manually at the same time using different selection criteria.

When F18 in (MOS170) is used, recurring work requests are generated based on a selection of scheduled services. These recurring work requests can, for example, be preventive maintenance jobs.

You can also use 'Work Request. Create' (MOS326) for this purpose. In this program, work requests can be generated based on, for example, event types, such as a job shift or a night stop. You can also manually set values for the work requests to be generated, for example by giving them the same planned start date or connecting them to a specific project.

Note: You can also manually run 'Master Schedule. Regenerate' (MOS999) to create a selection of work requests. Normally, however, this program is to set up to run automatically each day or week.)
Generate Emergency Work Request Emergency requests are used when a breakdown or similar situation occurs and repairs must be started as quickly as possible. An emergency request differs from a normal request in that it does not require any authorization. The request is immediately approved and released. This means that work can start right away. Enter the request in 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170).
Generate Emergency Work Request Using Quick Entry Just as Generate Emergency Work Request, this method is used when some kind of breakdown has occurred. The emergency request immediately becomes a regular work order. The quick entry method is more limited than the standard method and does not allow changes to existing requests. Enter the request in 'Work Request. Quick Entry' (MOS185).
  4. Generate Work Request during Manufacturing Disturbance

Work requests can be created automatically when a disturbance is detected in the manufacturing process. The work request that is generated contains a standard service that is always defaulted when a disturbance is logged, such as a service that contains a check. Disturbances are logged in 'MO Operation. Report Interruption Start' (PMS422), which is accessed from 'Work Center Schedule. Open' (PMS230).

  5. Generate Work Request at WO Operation Inspection

A work request can be created during inspection reporting in 'WO Operation. Report Inspection Result' (MOS085). This might be the case when additional problems are discovered. The program used is 'Work Request. Quick Entry' (MOS185).

  6. Generate Work Request at WO Operation Inspection - Automatic

A work request can be created automatically during inspection reporting in 'WO Operation. Report Inspection Result' (MOS085). If inspection results are reported that are outside the predefined operational tolerances, an automatic work request can be created. The default for this automatic request is defined in (CRS788). In addition, specific requests can be generated when certain values are reported. For example, if equipment is reported as being damaged, a request can be automatically generated to replace it. If a report is made that the equipment is dirty, a cleaning request can be generated.

  7. Generate Work Request via Complaints and Engineering Orders

A work request can be created when a complaint is logged in 'Complaint. Open' (MOS500). This creates a work request with a standard service (this is mainly used for aviation).

Work requests for all affected items in stock can be suggested by the system. This is done via an engineering order and an engineering order program. Engineering orders are used when modifications need to be performed on items or components. Engineering orders are defined in 'Eng Order. Open' (MOS200).
