Generate Emergency Work Request - Standard Method

This document explains how you generate a work request that is automatically released to become a work order.

Use this instruction when work has to begin as soon as possible, such as when equipment breaks down.

Outcome

A work order is created and displayed in 'Work Order. Open' (MOS100) and in 'Work Schedule. Open Toolbox' (MOS195). The work order specifies what work should be done on the equipment.

Information about the work request is stored in these files:

  • Services (MPDSCF)
  • Schedule master (MSCHMA)
  • Planning overview (MMM911)

The work order is used to report the time and material used in the service.

Before you start

  • A service must exist in 'Service. Open' (MOS300) with a planning policy with parameter 005 set to 60. This will automatically release the work request once it is created.
  • The work order type used should have parameter 180 set to 1 to allow automatic printing.
  • A serialized item/equipment must be defined in 'Equipment/Serialized Item. Open' (MMS240) if the work request is created for equipment.
  • A position must be defined in 'Model/Site. Connect Position' (MOS440) if the work request is created for a position.
  • The parameters for 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170) should be set.

Follow these steps

Follow these steps to create a new work request:

  1. Start 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170/B).

  2. On the B panel, select sorting order 15 and specify either a position or the equipment that the request is to be linked to, and specify whether a position or equipment number was entered.

The browse function will default to the site defined in sorting order 12 in (MOS170). This means that for multi-site installations, the correct position structure might not appear if the correct site is not set.

  3. Specify a structure type, if required, and a service to be used for the work request. Select New to display the G panel.

Information about the person responsible, facility, equipment/position, serial number, service, and structure type is copied from the B panel and displayed on the G panel.

  4. Specify the requester, the person responsible for the planning, and the person who needs to approve the work request, if applicable.

The current user can be automatically proposed as the requestor, depending on the settings on panel P.

The responsible person is automatically retrieved from 'Equipment/Serialized Item. Open' (MMS240) or 'Model/Site. Connect Position' (MOS440).

If no approver is specified, the approver is automatically retrieved from 'Work Order Authorization. Open' (MOS175).

  5. Specify a requested start/finish date and time, if applicable.

This is the time - the earliest and latest - that the work is allowed to be planned to start. These dates are used mainly for informational purposes.

If the work request is connected to a customer order or a workscope, the requested dates will be retrieved from the customer order/workscope instead.

  6. Specify a start or a finish date and time, depending on whether you use forward or backward planning.

These are the dates when the work is planned to start (and for which material and tools will be reserved) and finish.

  7. Specify a short description and a text, if required.

The description will default from 'Service. Open' (MOS300). If a reason code is specified, it will default as description if the field is left blank.

The first two lines of free text can be specified. If more text is needed, the record must be saved and then edited, or the T panel should be specified in the panel sequence.

The text is not printed on the standard work order printout. This text is passed on to the work order notepad text in 'Work Order. Open' (MOS100).

  8. Check the status and the priority and make adjustments, if required.

The status is copied from the service in 'Service. Open' (MOS300).

The priority is set in one of the following ways. If parameter 360 in 'Work Order Type. Open' (MOS120) is greater than 0, this value is used. If it is set to 0, the priority on the serialized item/equipment in 'Equipment/Serialized Item. Open' (MMS240) is used.

  9. Specify a transaction reason (optional) and whether the equipment should be shut down in order to carry out the work.

This flag needs to be set for the work order to appear in 'Work Center Schedule. Open' (PMS230) and within the M3 Scheduling Workbench (SWB).

  10. Optionally, specify a reference order type, number and line.

If the reference order category is 0, the field may also hold the work scope.

  11. Specify a request budget and an estimated cost, if applicable. Press Enter to finish.
