Using Services with Related Type I for Removal and Installations

When using an as-built structure and service definitions are defined against installed components, you must setup the removal and installation services to replace a component that needs to be sent to a workshop for a specific service. This can be done using a service with related type I.

Related service 'I' in (MOS309)

For a scheduled service on an installed component to trigger a removal, a related service can be connected in 'Service. Connect Related' (MOS309) with 'Relation type' set as 'I' (installed). This type of related service is only created as a related planned WO if the main component service is triggered by the service requirement planning (SRP) when the component is installed in an as-built structure. With this setup the related replacement service can be released and performed separately while the main component service remains as a planned WO and can be displayed and planned by the workshop planners. When the component is removed the main service disappears from the next higher-level view for planned WOs in 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170) but remains as a planned WO ready to be performed by the component workshop.

Create a scheduled service for a component in 'Service. Open' (MOS300) with related information such as maintenance limits and a bill of material for the component work.

Also create a removal service defined against the next higher component on which the removal or replacement work is defined. If the component can be installed in different as-built structures, several replacement services must be defined.

Then connect the related removal services to the main component service in (MOS309) with the relation code 'I-Installed' and select the 'Mandatory relat' check box.

Service, operations, and material in (PDS002)

Connected to the related service 'I' a material line for a new component must be created in 'Product. Connect Materials/Operations' (PDS002). To reuse the same replacement service for different removals, you can use '*' (asterisk) for the material and retrieve the actual item number from the as-built structure instead of defining an existing item number. To add an item not existing in the item master in 'Item. Open' (MMS001), use F13='Settings' and change 'Enter components - not in item master table' to 1-'Yes'.

Perform removal and installation of a component that needs a service in a workshop

With the setup in (MOS309) and (PDS002) a scheduled planned work order is created in (MOS170) against the installed component. The next higher item and serial number on this order will always be the highest in the structure, which can be one or several levels up in the structure.

In addition to the component service the related service 'I' is created. This must be created against the next higher level in the as-built structure. This related service has a material line for a new component to replace the installed one. If you use just an '*' (asterisk) for the service definition, the material line on the planned work order gets the configuration position added as '*configuration position' on the material line, as it is known in which position the main service component is installed in. The configuration position is also updated on the operations. When checking material availability this is translated to an item that can be installed in this position, based on the rules set up for the model.

When it is time to replace the component, the related service 'I' can be released separately without its main service, because the main service is done by another workshop or a subcontractor.

When the planned WO is released to a WO, the item on the material line is one of the specified alternatives. A picking list is created to retrieve a replacement component from the warehouse.

When this WO is reported you are directed to 'As-built structure. Update Removal/Inst' (MOS125) automatically while reporting the operation or when reporting the material used, if WO picking list, delayed issue, and remove/install functionality is used in (MOS120). For delayed issues the removal and installation transaction in (MOS125) is used to issue the component from stock.

You can also report the removal and installation going from the WO header in 'Work Order. Open' (MOS100) to the related option 27='As-built structure' and find the component to be replaced. Then use related option 31='Removal and Installation' to open (MOS125).

When the replacement WO is reported the components planned WO is removed from the main equipment in sorting order 12 in (MOS170) and is ready to be sent to the workshop or subcontractor for the maintenance work to be done. The main equipment continues to operate with the new component.

Removal tag

A removal tag, or similar, is usually created by M3 BE customers to specify information such as meter readings and 'removed from' information.

The removal tag MOS375PF can be printed from 'Equipment Structure. Display Rem/Inst' (MOS124) and through MOS124MI (Get Removal), transaction PrintRemovalTag.

The information on the tag is the removal or installation information from (MOS124) and (MOS125).

In addition, the following information and subsections are in the stream file:

  • Removal Info
  • Meter readings
  • Service history
  • As-built structure
  • Customer info
  • Address
  • Warranty info
