Estimate Work Request Job Content – Labor and Time

This document explains how you estimate time requirements and connect labor resources to a work request. It also explains how new operations in which time can be added are connected to the work request.

Use this instruction when you make changes in existing time and labor requirements for a work request, or when you want to add these details to a new request.

Outcome

Each work request is updated with the amount of time the work is expected to take and the number of workers that will be used.

Subcontracted work is usually defined with the estimated cost and supplier information.

The information is used to evaluate the job content and to provide an estimated job cost.

If a supplier and price are entered for subcontracted work, then this information will be used as a default against a purchase request created for the contract operation in 'Purchase Requisition. Open' (PPS180).

Information about affected files is stored in:

  • Work request materials (MMPMAT)
  • Work request operation (MMPOPE).

Before You Start

  • The starting conditions in Estimating Job Content must be met.
  • Work centers must exist in 'Work Center. Open' (PDS010).
  • For contractor-based operations, setting 35 in 'Settings - Purchasing' (CRS780) should be defined to enable the system to generate repair orders for contractor work centers. Ensure that a type 60 order is used. These are defined in 'PO Type. Open' (PPS095).
  • If you are creating the purchase request first (without the operation being present), setting 42 in 'Settings - Purchasing' (CRS780) should be defined with the default work center that will be used when the operation is automatically created from purchasing.

Follow These Steps

Add a New Operation

  1. Start 'Work Request. Open Line' (MOS171/B).

This can be done via 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170), option 'Materials and operations' or 'Work Request. Open Toolbox' (MOS197), option 'Materials and operations'.

  2. Select sorting order 1 and set the panel sequence to GH.

If you only want to use the most common operation detail fields, set the panel sequence to L. This is the operation summary panel.

  3. Enter an operation number and a work center in which the work is to be performed. Select Create.

  4. On the G panel, enter the estimated time the operation will take to perform and the time estimated for preparations before work may begin.

Note: The time unit must be the same as the one defined for the work center in 'Work Center. Open' (PDS010). For plant maintenance, this is normally hours or parts of hours.
  5. Enter the external setup time (optional).

This indicates the time required to prepare for the work outside the actual job time. The time indicates, for example, how long it will take to prepare drawings.

  6. Enter the planned number of workers required for the job and the planned number of workers required to set up the job (optional fields). Press Enter to finish or proceed to the H panel.

Defaults can be set up in 'Work Center. Open' (PDS010).

  7. On the H panel, enter a supplier and price for the subcontracted operation, and a unit price, if applicable. Press Enter to finish.

The supplier entered here will be used as the default against the purchase request created for the contracted operation in 'Planned Purchase Order. Open' (PPS170).

The unit price is displayed in 'Work Request. Open Line' (MOS171) and 'Work Order. Open Line' (MOS101).

Note: For subcontractor-based work centers, the system will use the subcontract control flag from the original service in (MOS300/PDS002). This cannot be changed here, but rather must be deleted and then recreated.

Add Time and Workers to an Existing Operation

  1. Start 'Work Request. Open Line' (MOS171/B).

This can be done via 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170) option 'Materials and operations', or 'Work Request. Open Toolbox' (MOS197) option 'Materials and operations'.

  2. Select sorting order 1 and set the panel sequence to GH.

If you only want to use the most common operation detail fields, set the panel sequence to L. This is the operation summary panel.

  3. Select the operation to edit and select Change to display the G panel.

  4. Enter the estimated time the operation will take to perform and the time estimated for preparations before work may begin.

  7. On the H panel, enter a supplier for the subcontracted operation and a unit price, if applicable. Press Enter to finish.

The supplier and price entered here will be used as the default against the purchase request created for the contracted operation in 'Planned Purchase Order.

Add a New Operation Based on an Existing One

  1. Start 'Work Request. Open Line' (MOS171/B).

This can be done via 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170) option 'Materials and operations', or 'Work Request. Open Toolbox' (MOS197) option 'Materials and operations'.

  2. On the B panel, press F17 to display a list of existing operations.

  3. Highlight the operation to add and click Select, or double-click on the operation to select it and add it to the list of operations.
