Selecting and Approving Work Requests

This document explains how you select and approve or authorize work requests. Such requests may include general work, such as improvements or repairs, that is not considered as regular preventive maintenance work.

Use this process if you are a manager with the responsibility to approve work requests.

Outcome

The suggested work is either approved or rejected. Approved work appears with status 20, which indicates that it is ready for maintenance estimating and planning.

Uses

Approved work requests can be estimated and planned further, or simply released to become work orders without estimation or planning.

How the System Is Affected

See the respective instruction for details on what files are affected.

Before you start

  • The starting conditions listed in Planning and Releasing Maintenance Work Requests must be met.
  • If work requests need to be approved, the approver should have status=20 in 'Work Order Authorization. Open' (MOS175) and 'Allow release' set as off. Also, parameter 230 in 'Work Order Type. Open' (MOS120) must not be 0.

Follow These Steps

  1. Define Selection Query

Define a selection query to identify work requests that need approval by this particular user. Queries are defined to speed up identification of unapproved work requests.

A selection query is defined in 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170/F17).

  2. Run Selection Query

Run the selection query to retrieve the work requests that need to be viewed and approved or rejected by this specific user.

The selection query is run from 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170).

  3. Approve or Reject Work Requests

Approve or reject work requests that are not automatically approved. Approving work requests means raising the request status, which indicates that the work request is approved and ready for estimation and planning.

Approve work requests in 'Work Request. Open' (MOS170).
