User Location

This document describes user locations and how to use them to move around in a physical workplace.

Background

In some companies, users are mobile and have a dynamic workplace. To support this, the user settings need to change dynamically, and the user needs to be able to set a series of parameters to control their working environment.

'User Location. Open' (CMS250) is used for this requirement. In (CMS250), the user can check in to different user locations, which have a set of parameters connected to them: division, facility, warehouse, cash desk, and credit card terminal IP address.

The user can only check in themselves to a user location, not check in other users.

User Location Definition

User location is a physical position within a warehouse. When checking into a user location with the location type Basic User, the fields Division, Facility, and Warehouse are automatically updated in 'User. Open' (MNS150) and 'User Settings. Open' (MNS155). The field User Location in both programs is used to indicate which user location the user is checked into. By checking into different user locations, the user can move around in the workplace, and still easily connect to the correct printer and credit card terminal, without multiple steps. If the user needs to change the value of Division, Facility, or Warehouse’ in (MNS150) or (MNS155), the field User Location must first be set to blank.

The fields Division, Facility, and Warehouse might have different values for each user location, and they are always part of a user location, independent of the user location type. If the user location type is Counter Position, the fields Cash Desk and Credit Card IP Address are additionally connected to the user location. Additionally, when the user checks into a user location of the type Counter Position, the cash desk for the user is updated in 'Cash Payment. Open' (OIS215).

The user location can also be used to select output media selection. In 'Settings - Output Management' (CMS700), the field Use User location in output media selection determines if the value of the field User location in (MNS150) is used as the value of the field 'Location' in 'Output Media Selection. Open' (MNS205).
