Define Basic Data for Feature List

This document explains how you define basic data for a feature list. Basic data includes feature status and control table for default feature status and feature responsible.

Define feature status

The feature status is used for the review and validation of a new feature. The status can be used together with the 'Responsible' field to build customer defined workflows. The field automatically updates the field 'Review progress'. Status 10-49 indicate 'Under review' and 50-90 indicate 'Review completed'.

Workflow

In 'Feature Status. Open' (CMS978), the different status used in the feature review progress are defined. Status 10, 50, and 90 are system-defined and cannot be deleted.

Define default status for a new feature

When a new feature is installed, a default status is defined depending on a selection table. These fields are used as control objects:

  • Product
  • Feature type
  • Module
  • Country
  • Configuration component

Examples of how the selection table can be used to set the default status:

  • I do not want to review feature type 1 (Zero impact), always set to status 90.
  • I do not use module Fixed Assets, always set to status 90.
  • I do not use country Sweden, always set to status 90.

If no record is found in the selection table that matches the feature, a status is set according to these rules:

  • Features with type 1='Zero impact' and 2='Functional setting' are set to status '50' by default.
  • Features with type 3-’Feature toggle, non-disruptive’, 4-‘Feature toggle, disruptive’, 5='Immediately', and 6=’Immediately, any release’ are set to status '10' by default.

Workflow

Connect control object

  1. Start 'Available Object Ctrl Parameters. Open' (CMS016).
  2. In the Object control parameter column, right-click Feature selection and select option 11='Object table detailed lines'. 'Generic Object Control Table. Open' (CMS017) is started. If feature selection is missing, generate all standard parameters by using function key F14='Standard'.
  3. On (CMS017/B), use option 1='Create'.
  4. On the E panel, specify:
    1. Feature select with 1-'Feature status'.
    2. Field 1, 2, and 3 with selections made in field group CMKV1.
  5. Press Enter. 'Feature Selection Table. Open' (CMS973) is started.

Define default responsible person for the new feature

When a new feature is installed, a default responsible is defined based on a selection table. These fields are used as control objects:

  • Product
  • Feature type
  • Module
  • Country
  • Configuration component

Workflow

Connect control object

  1. Start 'Available Object Ctrl Parameters. Open' (CMS016).

  4. On the E panel, specify:
    1. Feature select with 2-'Responsible'.

  6. Press Enter.

Define default activation for the new feature

When a new feature of feature type 3-‘Feature toggle’ and 4-‘Feature toggle’ is installed, it can automatically be activated based on a selection table. If no record is found in the selection table that match, the feature is turned off by default. These fields are used as control objects for the selection table:
  • Product
  • Feature type
  • Module
  • Country
  • Configuration component

Workflow

Connect control object
  1. Start 'Available Object Ctrl Parameters. Open' (CMS016).

Define default status
  1. Start 'Feature Selection Table. Open' (CMS973).
  2. In Feature select, select 3-'Feature active'.
  3. Select the priority.
  4. Specify values for the control fields and use option 1='Create'.
  5. On the E panel, specify the responsible person.

Define application message

When a new feature is installed, an application message 013-'New Feature installed' can be created containing the feature ID, feature type, and feature description.

Workflow

  1. In 'System Settings. Open' (MNS090), define field Company for application messages. The field indicates in which Company the application message is created (needed because a feature does not have any natural relation to a Company).
  2. In 'Settings – Application messages' (CRS424) activate Application message 013 or select the check box for 'Activity code' on the E panel.
  3. The application message will be created using the default responsible for a feature. If no default responsible is defined, no application message is created.
