User segments and assortments at run time

At run time, Infor e-Commerce evaluates the visibility status of each item by determining if the item belongs to an assortment the current user can see. There are two ways that an item might evaluate to visible:

  • Explicit visibility – When an item or category belongs to one or more visible assortments because the merchant has configured that specific item or category as such.

  • Implicit visibility – When an item or category belongs to one or more visible assortments, not because it has been specifically enabled, but because of the rules below.

Rules:

  • Explicit category visibility implies item visibility:

    • If a category is explicitly visible, then all of its sub-categories are also explicitly visible.

    • If a category is explicitly visible, then all its parent categories are implicitly visible.

    • If a category is implicitly visible, then all its parent categories are implicitly visible.

    • If a category is explicitly visible, then all items within that category are implicitly visible.

  • Explicit item visibility implies category visibility:

    • If an item is explicitly visible, then the categories containing the item are implicitly visible.

These rules are intended to ensure that when a merchant makes a specific item or category visible, then customers will still be able to drill-down through the category hierarchy to find it.
