Types of items

Infor e-Commerce supports three types of items:

  • Simple items are items that have no options — they are always delivered in the same configuration.

  • Items with variants include options that do not affect the price of an item. Each variant has a type (such as color or size) and each type has a set of possible values (such as red, green and blue).

  • Complex items are items that contain one or more options that affect the purchase price. A computer system with options for different processors, graphics cards, and hard disks would be complex items. The sub-items may or may not also be available for purchase separately.

All three types of items use the same basic set of items details, while the configurable items must also be set up with options. In addition, all types of items support advanced tax calculation and customer-based pricing and volume discounts.

Note: In the M3 setup, items are replicated from M3. For information about the replicated items, see "Effects of Interfacing" in Infor e-Commerce M3 Connector's Guide.

The Business Center provides convenient tools for setting up all three types of items while working online. If you wish to import item data or synchronize with a third-party system, then you must learn something about the underlying data structure to ensure that the system you establish work correctly - especially if you are providing configurable items.
