Overview on customer data

In Infor e-Commerce, a customer identifies a company (merchant or reseller). Most users belong to a company and these users are called customer users. However, some users do not belong to any customer. These include:

  • A "guest" user, which is the account used by all users until they log on

  • A single user, who is typically a consumer (each type of user is described in User accounts and relations)

  • A prospect user, who subscribes for Infor e-Commerce newsletter

Usually, each customer is a business partner of the merchant that is running the application - typically a reseller of items or products supplied by the merchant. The merchant company itself is also configured as a customer in Infor e-Commerce; it is identified as having a company-type of "merchant". All other companies are of type "reseller". All new customers are automatically be of type "reseller"; you cannot create another merchant company. Both types of customers are configured in the same way.

Note: In the M3 setup, customers are replicated from M3. For information about the replicated customers, see "Effects of Interfacing" in Infor e-Commerce M3 Connector's Guide.
