Server Workflows

Configure Server Workflows to run a sequence of actions on the server back end. Define actions such as importing datasets from M3, exporting datasets to M3, and performing SQL commands. These actions are run automatically as scheduled tasks. This configuration automates recurring data operations and improves efficiency.

Note: This feature is only available for Multi-tenant Cloud deployments.
  1. From the menu, select Data Administration > Server Workflows.
The Server Workflows dialog box is displayed.
  2. In Configuration, specify this information:
    Name
Select a configuration from the list.
  3. In the Action list, select an action.

This table shows the available actions:

    Action Description
Import M3 Dataset Imports datasets from M3
Export M3 Dataset Exports datasets to M3
Run SQL Run SQL commands on the version
Import Data lake / Data Warehouse Imports from data lake and data warehouse to a table
Extra/Numeric/Text Key Import Run additional dataset keys and data in a scheduled server workflow to improve scheduled tasks.
    Confirm Scenario Parts
Accept Sales Activities For Confirm Scenario Parts and Accept Sales Activities, you must complete these actions before Export Dataset.
    Attribute Import

Configure Attribute Import before it is available in Server Workflows.

    See Importing Attributes.

Note: Only attributes with active version are available in Server Workflows.
    Open Version See Open Version.
    Close Version See Close Version.
Delay Waiting Time Specify the number of hours and minutes. When the workflow runs, the action waits for the specified hours and minutes before the next workflow step continues.
Import Dataset Queries Run a saved Import Dataset Query configuration through a Server Workflow action configured in a Scheduled Task, with support for validation, error handling, and logging.

    See Scheduled Server Tasks.

Favorite View Data Update Set the Copy Measure values or Update Numeric Key from measure in a Favorite view. You can configure the workflow through the Server Workflow Create form and run on a scheduled task, similar to other server workflow steps.

    See Favorite View Data Update.

Global Filter Restrict the records that a Server Workflow processes. When configured, workflow actions, such as Update Measure, process only data that matches the specified filter criteria. You can filter by Basic Keys, Extra Keys, Numeric Keys, Text Keys, Key State, and Time or Period. The workflow applies key filters to key data and time filters to value data. It skips filter entries that do not apply to the current dataset.
    Server Workflows

Enables a Server Workflow to execute another Server Workflow as a nested step. This feature supports modular workflow design by allowing larger workflows to be built from smaller, reusable workflows. It helps reduce duplicate configuration and simplifies maintenance of complex workflow processes.

When a nested workflow runs, its actions execute sequentially in the configured order. Each action must complete before the next action starts. Nested workflows do not run in parallel.

To ensure workflow stability, the system prevents self-references and circular workflow dependencies that could cause infinite loops. If a child action fails, the failure is logged and processing continues with the next action, preventing a single failure from stopping the entire workflow execution. Additionally, the same workflow can run only once within a single top-level workflow execution.

Note: After selecting an action, the Execute check box is automatically selected. Clear the check box if you prefer not to run the action. You can also use the arrow buttons on the right side of the grid to arrange the sequence of actions. Additional actions may be added in the future.
  4. In the Parameter field, select the applicable parameter detail from the list.
  5. Click Close.
