Expand Dataset Data
You can use Expand Dataset Data to allow the data from one Favorite View (From view) to be extended or created into another dataset based on the template of another Favorite View referred to as the Expansion view.
You can use this feature to create the necessary combination of keys, specifically the Basic Keys present in the From view and Expansion view, which are then added to the records of the To Dataset.
Access this feature in
or run it using a workflow. This feature supports these use cases:
- Templating data creation
- Generating SKU from other keys such as style, color, and so on
- Generating Bill of Material to see the component level forecast
You can use this feature to:
- Expand and distribute data to another Key dimension. You can select from Style to Style + Color or other Keys like Category to Category + sub category or Style + Color to Style + Color + Size. Key records in the To Dataset are created if missing.
- Main item to Main Item + components using a Favorite View (Expansion view) that contains the Bill of Material or Component list and component quantity.
- Redistribute values with updated template, such as one dataset has Style + Color. The From view is aggregated to Style and the Expansion view contains the template for Style to Style - Color distribution ratio.
Expand Dataset Data has arrows, and the colors of these arrows indicate messages that are typically shown in the status bar. The red arrow means there are no keys matched with the selected options that are required to be checked. The blue arrow means keys are matched, which you can use to expand data.
Limitations
In some cases, DMP can perform the Expand Dataset Data even if one of the arrows is red. These conditions apply when DMP expands dataset data:
- DMP requires additional keys to be defined in a way that enables the expansion. It is the responsibility of the user to configure these keys correctly. Otherwise, the expansion will fail.
- When the Expansion view data changes, DMP is unable to remove records that are no longer valid.
- The button displays a red border to indicate a potential issue.
