Reports

The Report component establishes a snapshot of selected data from a M3 DMP version. It offers features such as Calculated Measures and Data Indicators that are not available in the usual data views in M3 DMP.

When a new report is generated, a snapshot of the selected data is loaded into a report file as Measures, corresponding to data types and budget versions. You can create Calculated Measures in the report as calculated columns based on one or more Measures.

With the update feature, a new snapshot of data is transferred for selected periods at any time. You can distribute a saved report as a file that you can view in other M3 DMP Client installations.

Key features

  • Define the report data through Favorite Views offering powerful filtering, aggregation, and scenario handling.
  • Snapshot and Update: Preserve data history even though data is changed. Control when and which Report data to load or update with a new snapshot. This is useful when maintaining Performance Reports. See About Performance Reports.
  • Calculated Measures: Create new measures defined from loaded Measures.
  • Indicate Report data inside or outside defined ranges
  • Distribute Report files
  • View Report files from other M3 DMP users.

Other features

  • Display Year Totals and Grand Totals
  • Group on dimensions (keys) and display group totals
  • Apply layout features from M3 DMP pivot sheet such as sort, auto-size, hide columns, and so on
  • Copy selected report data to other applications such as Microsoft Excel
  • Print report

Report contents

The layout of a report is very similar to a pivot sheet. The main difference is that Measures, which is a combination of datatype and budget version, and Calculated Measures for each time period are presented in columns. The data in the report are the basic U/M values. The report can contain only committed data or it can include a change scenario.

Report Setup

A report is generated through the Report Wizard on the basis of a favorite view that provides the data for the report. These are defined in favorite view:

  1. Datasets
  2. Data filtering: On keys, data types, and budget versions.
  3. Initial periods: The period filtering in the favorite view determines the periods initially loaded into the report.
  4. Dimensions: The keys in the datasets and the aggregation level in the favorite view determine the dimensions in the report.
  5. Measures: The combinations of data types and budget versions in the favorite view determine the available measures. In the Report Wizard, you can omit measures, names, format, and sequence in the report defined.
  6. Scenario: You can include the scenario linked to the favorite view in the report data. In the Report Wizard, you can determine if the report must use committed data only or include the change scenario.
Note: You cannot modify the data selection once the report is generated.

You can define and modify these options directly in the report:

  1. Calculated Measures: Defined as a formula using imported Measures and constants.
  2. Data Indicators: Customized coloring of data within or outside defined ranges.
  3. Total Columns: Totals for Measures and Calculated Measures for each year and for the entire collection of data. The totals for Calculated Measures are determined by applying the defined formula on the summed totals for the Measures.

For more information, see Use Report Functionality.

Update

You can update each Measure in a report for specified periods when desired. A new snapshot of the M3 DMP version data for the selected periods is loaded into the report. If the Measure is updated for periods that already exist in the report, any existing data is over-written. If the Measure is updated for new periods, the periods are created and populated in the report.

When the data is updated, all Calculated Measures and Totals are automatically recalculated and Data Indicators are applied to the new data.

For an example on using the update feature to maintain a report measuring forecast accuracy on some horizon, see About Performance Reports.

Note: To enable proper functioning of the update feature, you must not change the favorite view used to generate the report.
