Defining attributes

  1. From the menu, select Data > Attributes Setup > Attributes Define.
    The Attributes dialog box is displayed.
  2. In Attributes, click New.
    The Attribute define dialog box is displayed.
  3. In the Configuration section, specify this information:
    Name
    Specify the name of the attribute.
  4. In the Import Method section, select the applicable import method if it is New, Update, or Append.
  5. In the Keys section, specify this information:
    Key
    Select a key from the list.
    Key Field
    You cannot edit this field. This field only displays the key field name depending on the selected key.
    Key and Attribute Fields
    Define the attribute fields for the selected key.
    New
    Click New to add a new attribute field for the selected key.
    Delete
    Click Delete to delete an attribute field for the selected key.
  6. In the Data Source section, specify this information:
    Provider
    Select a provider from the list. Provider is the data source from which an attribute is imported.
    These are some provider options:
    • ODBC
    • Excel
    • Access
    • SQLServer
    • OleDB
    • File

      Select this option for CSV file loading.

    • Active version

      Select this option to load the current DMP database. This is useful to select data from attribute and use it for multiple extra key or numeric key import.

    Provider Data
    Specify the provider data. Click the ellipsis icon to browse the selected file.
    User Name
    Specify the user name.
    Password
    Specify the password.
    Note: You can define or edit a provider in the Provider properties dialog box. See Provider Properties.
  7. In the Query section, specify this information:
    Keys
    Define the Attribute Key and File Key.
    List Separator
    Select a list separator from the list. If the list separator used in the CSV file you are importing is not available in the options, select Other then specify the list separator in the text field.
    Decimal Separator
    Specify a decimal separator from the list. If the decimal separator used in the CSV file you are importing is not available in the options, select Other then specify the decimal separator in the text field .
    Note: List Separator and Decimal Separator are only enabled and visible if a file is selected in Provider. DMP can only support importing numeric values correctly if the separators defined match the ones in the CSV file. If the correct separators are not defined, this can cause errors or corrupted data import.
  8. Optionally, click Edit Attribute Table to edit the attribute key table.
  9. Click OK.
