About Version Control

Version Control is a role based component that is used to manage different forecast environments, forecast versions, and forecast packages. Version Control governs connections to external systems (import or export), access between M3 DMP Client and M3 DMP Server (upload or download), and creation of forecast packages to forecasters.

The forecast data managed in M3 DMP is always contained in the active version.

The access to functions is governed by the active user role in M3 DMP.

This table explains more about the role activities:

You can access the Version Control area from the menu bar where you can switch between Favorite Views area, Version Control area, and Scoreboard area.

This table displays the available actions in the Version Control panel:

Button Description
Select Version Enables the selected version
Note: You can also enable the selected version by double-clicking it.
Version Properties Displays the Version Properties dialog box
Copy Version Copies the selected version to a new version.
Note: You cannot copy an open version.
Delete Version Deletes the selected version. Note that
Note: You cannot delete an active version.
New Empty Version Allows the user with administrator rights to create a new version
Open Version Allows the user with administrator rights to open a version
Close Version Allows the user with administrator rights to close a version
Compact Database Allows to shrink the database to clear the transaction log
Note:  You can only do this if there are no users connected to the database.
Data Exchange Lists all the options used for exchanging of data
Print Prints the items listed in the Analysis area
Note: You cannot print the drill down information from the workbench using this button.
Help Opens the online help
Note: You can also access these actions if you right-click a favorite view in the Favorite Views area.

This table displays the Version Control panel columns:

Column Description
Version Displays information about the order of different versions created under the same folder
Location Displays information about the location of the data in a specific folder 
Name Allows the user to identify the version by name. Select the properties in the Version button and change the name in the Version Control Properties dialog box
Resource Allows the user to identify the file name of the version you need.  Use the file name to find the file
Status Displays information if the version is open or close
Sync with Displays information about the uploaded datasets. You can see which of the versions (by the version number) have been synchronized with the versions on the server.
