About Users

The user related functionality allows the M3 DMP administrator to:

  • Register users
  • Assign passwords
  • Enable a user for a specific time
  • Define access privileges
  • Specify dataset rights
Note: Only the M3 DMP administrator has access to the user related functionality.

For every forecaster, you must define one of the three work methods. The forecaster works in accordance with the defined method. The choice of work method has a direct impact on the way the user interacts with data on the M3 DMP Server.

This table shows a brief description of the different work methods:

Work Method Description Version Control functions
Central Applicable to SQL Server only. The forecaster connects directly to the M3 DMP Server database. Data is fetched and stored directly on the database server. NA
Distributed Online The forecaster downloads the forecast package from a download site (FTP or HTTP) and installs it locally to the Version Control using the Receive Forecast Package. The forecast package is stored locally, and the database server is updated when the forecaster activates the Send Forecast Information option.
  • Create Forecast Package
  • Type of User Receive Forecast Package
  • Send Forecast Information
Distributed Offline The forecaster fetches the forecast package from a shared drive or from email, then installs it locally in Version Control using the Load Forecast Package option. The forecast package is stored locally. When the forecaster enables the Save Forecast Information option, an information package is written. The resulting information package is forwarded to the administrator, who installs the changes on the database server by using the Load Forecast Information function.
  • Create Forecast Package
  • Load Forecast Package
  • Save Forecast Information
  • Load Forecast Information
Note: For the package user profiles, offline and online work methods are no longer supported in MT and are deprecated in ST/OP.
