About Version Control

The Version Control is a role based component that is used to manage different forecast environments, forecast versions and forecast packages. Version Control governs connections to external systems (import/export), access between M3 DMP clients and M3 DMP server (upload/download) and creation of forecast packages to forecasters.

The forecast data managed in M3 DMP is always contained in the active version.

The access to functions is governed by the active user role in M3 DMP. The following table explains more about Role Activities:

The Version Control area can be reached from the drop-down list in the main menu bar where you can switch between Favorite Views area, Version Control area and Scoreboard area. Select Version Control and click on the Actions menu to access the following available actions for the Version Control panel:


Button	Description
Select Version	Activates the selected version. Note that the selected version can also be activated by double clicking on it.
Version Properties	Displays the Version Properties dialog
Copy Version	Copies the selected version to a new version. Note that an open version cannot be copied.
Delete Version	Deletes the selected version. Note that an Active version cannot be deleted.
New Empty Version	Allows the user with administrator rights to create a new version
Open Version	Allows the user with administrator rights to Open Version
Close Version	Allows the user with administrator rights to Close Version
Compact Database	This option allows to shrink the database to clear the transaction log. Note that it is only possible if no users are connected to the database.
Data Exchange	This lists all the options used for exchange of data.
Print	Prints the items listed in the Analysis Area. Note that you cannot print the drill down information from the Workbench using this button.
Help	Opens the "About Version Control" page of the Online Help system

Note: You can also reach these Actions by right-clicking a favorite view in the Favorite view area.

The Version Control panel comprises of several columns, they are listed as follows:


Column	Description
Version	Displays information about the order of different versions created under the same folder
Location	Displays information about the location of the data in a specific folder.
Name	Allows the user to identify the version by name. Select the properties of Version button and change the name in the Version Control Properties dialog.
Resource	Allows the user to identify the file name of the version you need. Use the file name to find the file
Status	Displays information about whether the version is Open or Closed.
Sync with	Displays information about uploaded Datasets. The user is able to see which of the versions (by the version number) have been synchronized with versions on the server.
