About Scenario Parts

Scenario Parts are used in M3 DMP to label one or more changes made by a forecaster or administrator. This is a crucial concept in

M3 DMP, since it is not possible to create changes, unless they are attached to a scenario part.  Scenario Parts are best understood as containers for changes that are made once and do not need to be retrieved in later forecast cycles.

Changes made in the Pivot Sheet must be labeled as a Scenario Part and are attached to a Dataset. The advantages of selecting one change label over the other is clarified below:

  • The change dialog provides an intuitive way to attach changes to Scenarios as Scenario Parts.
  • By default you will have access to the Scenario Parts dialog because it is suited for the changes that are part of the normal forecasting procedure.
  • The dialog will ask you to select the scenario to which you want to:
    1. Attach the change
    2. Provide a name for your scenario part
    3. Select a change category (for example, new product) for your scenario part
    4. Select a To Do List item for your scenario part
    5. Provide a description of the changes in the Scenario Part.
  • The information you include with a Scenario Part subsequently enables the Change List functionality to provide an overview of the changes and offers you the ability to:
    1. Delete a scenario part
    2. Confirm a scenario part
    3. Undo confirmation of a scenario part, and
    4. Set a new change category for a scenario part (for example, new markets).
  • You also have easy access to see the changes directly in the pivot sheet by selecting either the View Scenario Parts button or the View Scenario Part Information.
