About Measures

Measures are the basic components for the creation of favorite views. A measure is a combination of budget and datatype. The measures for a Dataset are therefore all combinations of budget and data types inherent in that Dataset. Measures are also a key component in Calculated Measures and Editable Calculated Measures.

Measures are available from the Favorite View Properties dialog as a list of possible measures. It is possible to select and de-select from the list of  measures according to the requirement of the user. Measures are displayed in the pivot sheet according to the selection made in the Favorite Views Properties dialog.

Calculated Measures

Calculated Measures enables the creation of new columns based on measures combined with arithmetical symbols to form mathematical equations. The calculated measures functionality is part of the Favorite View Properties dialog.

The following functions and operators can be used in the calculated measure equations:

  • Round [Example: 0.46=0 and 0.5=1]
  • Trunc [Example: 2.3=2 and 3.7=3]
  • Abs [Example:(-32.01)=32.01]
  • Addition (+)
  • Subtraction (-)
  • Multiplication (*)
  • Division (/)
  • Exponential Function (10X)
Note:  If an equation  produces cyclic calculations, the user will be informed about the same. This feature helps prevent cyclic calculations.

Editable Calculated Measures

Editable Calculated Measures (ECM) enables the creation of new columns based on predefined ECM equations. There are four equations used to create ECMs, they are listed as follows:

  • Ratio
  • Margin
  • Net Margin
  • Difference
Note:  This functionality is only applicable to Sales Budgeting.
