Adjusting Environment

This chapter explains how the administrator prepares the M3 DMP environment to suit the forecasting process for the current cycle. This includes defining the Changeable Time Horizon for each Dataset and adjusting time settings for the active Version.

Outcome

Changeable Time Horizons, that is the time buckets that are open for changes in the Datasets, are enabled so that the forecasting activities in the current cycle can take place. The time settings suit the forecasting activities.

The adjusted environment is used for forecasting to enable creation of a Sales Forecast Proposal.

Data import and any forecast activities performed in M3 DMP do not affect M3 Business Engine. The M3 Business Engine is only affected when exporting data from M3 DMP. See Exporting Consolidated Sales Forecast Proposal.

Before Starting

M3 BE Datasets are imported and split into M3 DMP Datasets according to the assignment of forecasting activities. See Importing Data.

Workflow

All the following activities described are optional and the sequence of the activities is of no importance with the exception of activity number four: that is, Changeable Time Horizons must be defined for each Dataset.

Activity Description

  1. Change time marks (optional)

Use this activity to add, change or delete time horizons for the active Version. Time horizons are used as pre-defined period selections for filters and for defining the Changeable Time Horizons. Time horizons can also be defined relative to a time mark. See Change time marks.

  2. Define Changeable Time Horizons

Use this activity to define the Changeable Time Horizon for each Dataset. A Changeable Time Horizon is the time period open for changes in a Dataset. The only values that can be changed by the administrator or forecasters are the values within this time horizon. When the Changeable Time Horizon is defined, any missing record within the horizon can be created to enable assignment of values and changes. See Values and Changes and Define Time Horizons.

  3. Edit Change Categories (optional)

In this activity, change categories for the active Version are created, adjusted or deleted. Change categories are used to categorize the changes to forecast values.
