Managing Configurations

The Manage Configurations page allows you to create, edit, and delete service configurations for deployed web services.

Note: You need administrator privileges to use these features.

A service configuration can be used in two different contexts:

  • Design-time configuration: This is the configuration defining the back-end system, from which the metadata is retrieved in order to create the web service, i.e., the Application Server such as the M3 Server.

  • Run-time configuration: This is the configuration defining the back-end system to use when executing web services. That is, the Application Server on which the web service will execute.

Often, the ‘design-time’ and ‘run-time’ configuration will be the same, especially during development. Where they may differ is if a web service that has been developed against a ‘test environment’ is deployed to a ‘production environment’ where it will execute against a different Application Server.

Note: The design-time and run-time configurations should point to an Application Server that are at the same version and service pack level, otherwise there could be inconsistencies between the web service and the application it calls.

If the IP address of the application server changes, you will need to edit each service configuration.
