Trial balance report
Requirement
The provision of a trial balance report over the general ledger, by an accounting system, is a fundamental accounting requirement.In this country, the accounting trial balance report is not a legal requirement, but a basic business practice.

A five-column report shows this information for each account:
- Opening balances
- Period balances
- Closing balances
An eight-column report shows this information for each account, with separate columns for debit and credit values:
- Opening balances
- Period balances
- Period movements and closing balances
