Format of bank account numbers

Requirement

Countries and banks have different structures for bank account numbers.

In Nigeria, the NUBAN must be used, as required by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

M3 solution

The formats in this country for domestic and international bank accounts are supported by M3.

General configuration guidelines

Format Example
NUBAN (Nigeria uniform bank account number)

Numeric, 13 digits long.

Example: ABC-DEFGHIJKL-M

The first three digits are used for the bank code, which is assigned by the CBN.

The next nine digits are used for NUBAN account serial number.

The last digit is the NUBAN check digit, which is required for the validation of the account number.

Normally, separators and blanks are not inserted in electronic messages.

The validation of the account number is not provided by M3. You can manually validate account numbers:

  1. Calculate A*3+B*7+C*3+D*3+E*7+F*3+G*3+H*7+I*3+J*3+K*7+L*3.
  2. Calculate the result modulo 10, that is, the remainder after dividing the result by 10.
  3. To obtain the check digit, subtract the result from 10.
  4. If the result is 10, then the check digit is 0.
