Format of bank account numbers
Requirement
Countries and banks have different structures for bank account numbers.
Switzerland is part of SEPA. The International Bank Account Number (IBAN) is used in European countries for euro transfers.
M3 solution
The formats in this country for domestic and international bank accounts are supported by M3.
The local Swiss domestic and international payments for suppliers, in accordance with the SEPA and ISO 20022 standards, are supported by M3:
- Domestic or EU transfers using QR-IBAN or the IBAN, with QR or SCOR reference or without reference.
- Cross-border SEPA transfers
- Cross-border non-SEPA transfers to international accounts, using an IBAN, BBAN and ABAN
The former DTA, EPO, and ESR payment formats are not supported any more, all these payments types are covered by the ISO 20022 standards.
Check routines are performed:
- During entry, the IBAN is validated based on the check-digit figure.
- During supplier invoice entry, the QR or SCOR reference number can be validated.
Effective from 2020, IBANs must be used for all transfers in Switzerland.
In 2019, the QR (Quick Response) invoice has been introduced. For security reasons, an additional QR-IBAN is allocated to every payee in addition to the standard IBAN. Numbers from 30000 to 31999 are exclusively reserved for the QR-IID (Instituts-Identifikation).
