Configuring additional features and settings for the chart component

You can configure additional features for the Chart component to customize settings.

Using Max values to display

Use Max values to display to limit how many values are displayed in the chart.
  1. In the chart configuration, click the Properties tab.
  2. Specify a number in the Max values to display.
  3. Click Save.
    Note: 
    • The Max values to display setting is applied after the retrieved records are aggregated and sorted for the chart. See How data limits and sorting affect chart values.
    • The setting has no effect if it is higher than the max number of records specified in the data service configuration.

Using custom sorting

Use custom sorting to control the order of chart values after grouping and aggregation. The Chart component calculates aggregated values, such as counts or sums. These values do not exist in the records that the data service returns. Therefore, chart sorting is applied in the Chart component and overrides sorting from the data service for the displayed values.

  1. In the chart configuration, click the Properties tab.
  2. Select a Sort by: option
    Blank
    Keep the order returned by the data service.
    Aggregated value
    Sort by the calculated count or summed value.
    Field
    Sort by a chart field, such as the Label, Value, or Stack field. For example, STAT - Status.
  3. Configure the Sort order:
    Ascending
    Low to high: A-Z or 0-10.
    Descending

    High to low: Z-A or 10-0.

  4. Click Save.

How sorting and the maximum number of values affect chart values

The maximum number of records in the data service and the chart’s configured aggregation type, custom sorting, and Max values to display setting determine the values shown in a chart.

  • Max number of records in the data service configuration: Controls how many records are retrieved. If the data service is set to return up to 100 records, only those 100 records are available to the chart.
  • Aggregation: The chart groups and summarizes the retrieved records based on the configured aggregation type and fields.
  • Sorting: If custom sorting is configured, the chart sorts the aggregated values.
  • Max values to display: After aggregation and sorting, the chart shows only the specified number of values.
Note: 
  • If the actual data set contains more records than the data service is configured to return, the aggregation and sorting are based only on the retrieved records, not the full data set. As a result, the displayed values might not reflect the complete totals.
  • The sorting order configured in the data service, for example, specifying SortBy in the SQRY field for a Search transaction, affects the records that the service retrieves. This setting does not sort the aggregated chart values. Changing SortBy in the data service can cause the service to return a different set of records, which changes the aggregated values shown in the chart.

Rotating labels

Rotate labels on the X-axis to improve readability when labels are long or numerous. This is available for all chart types except for Pie and Donut.

  1. In the chart configuration, click the Properties tab.
  2. Select Rotate x-axis labels check box.
  3. Click Save.
